Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify several figures from the destination chart, including 52% in full-time work, 15% in part-time work, and 12% unemployed. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns, and some information is misreported: 8% pursued full-time postgraduate study, while only 5% combined part-time work with postgraduate study. The statement that graduates had “many fields to used” is vague, and the salary table is barely addressed; saying pay “depends upon the position” does not report its comparisons. To strengthen the response, summarise the dominant destinations and the salary pattern, then select accurate figures from each visual. The task is addressed only partially, with limited and underdeveloped reporting of key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response follows a basic sequence: it begins with graduates’ destinations, lists several percentages, and then mentions employment types. This gives the reader some sense of the topic. However, the ideas are crowded into one long paragraph, with little separation between the chart and table, and the progression is difficult to follow. Repeated phrases such as “he or she” and “almost” make the account feel repetitive, while links such as “and” do not clearly show how the points relate. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and separate detail paragraphs for destinations and salaries. Use clear references and transitions so each figure is connected to the feature it describes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “full time,” “part-time job,” “higher education,” “unemployed,” and “freelance consultant.” These terms help communicate the general subject, and the response shows an attempt to describe employment choices. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “fields to used,” “15% time to do a part-time job,” and “run private companies.” Repetition of “people” and “graduate” also limits flexibility. Choose precise chart language, for example, “destination,” “employment sector,” and “salary band,” and use natural collocations such as “work part-time” and “earn a salary.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example when listing the destinations and their percentages, but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined with “and,” and control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “anthropologist she or he had 52% to work full time” and “there are freelance consultant.” Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in the opening run-on sentence beginning “the chart is showing.” These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing short, complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement, then combine them using controlled clauses. For example, distinguish clearly between graduates who “worked full-time” and those who “pursued postgraduate study.”
