Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response reports the six destination figures accurately, including 52% in full-time work and 12% unemployed. However, it covers only the pie-chart information and omits the table entirely, so there is no comparison of salaries across employment types. It also gives no overview of the main patterns, such as full-time work being the largest destination or government employees having the highest share in the top salary band. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, summarise both visuals, select the most important comparisons, and include a clear overview rather than listing figures alone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The figures are presented in a generally understandable sequence, and the line breaks make the list easy to follow. However, the response has no paragraph structure or clear progression from an overview to supporting details. It reads as a series of separate statements, with little linking or comparison between the figures. For example, the destinations are listed one after another, but the reader is not guided towards the key contrast between full-time work and the smaller categories. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and detail paragraphs covering the chart and table, using linking phrases to show comparisons and relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to identify the topic and several categories, using terms such as “full time work,” “unemployed,” and “postgraduate study.” However, the range is narrow and some labels are imprecise or informal, including “part work” and “unknown.” The response also repeats category names rather than using language to compare proportions or describe salary bands. More precise task vocabulary would help communicate the data clearly, for example “part-time employment,” “not known,” “accounted for,” and “salary bracket.” Practise using a small range of accurate comparison expressions, such as “the largest proportion” and “a smaller share,” alongside the chart’s exact labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response uses simple sentence forms that make most figures understandable, but it shows limited grammatical range and has noticeable errors. In “The full time work are 52%,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the category is treated awkwardly as a plural subject. The list also lacks consistent sentence structure and punctuation, making it unclear where some statements end. Capitalisation is inconsistent at the beginning of the response. Aim to write complete, controlled sentences, such as “Full-time work accounted for 52% of graduates,” and vary these with accurate comparison structures. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, hyphenation, and sentence punctuation.
