Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response makes a relevant attempt to describe the salary table, including comparisons between freelance consultants, government employment and private companies. However, it does not adequately cover the task as a whole: the chart showing graduates’ destinations is omitted, and there is no clear overview of the main features. Some figures are also misreported or left incomplete. For example, the $75,000–99,999 figures are assigned as 40% for freelance consultants, 30% for government and 25% for private companies, whereas the table gives 40%, 30% and 25% respectively; this comparison is accurate, but the final salary band is cut off before its figures are reported. The opening also incorrectly says there are six categories of work on which salaries are decided. To improve, summarise both visuals and select the most notable overall patterns before giving details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction and then groups comparisons by salary band, using transitions such as “Then” and “Then comes.” This gives the reader a basic sense of sequence. However, progression is weakened by the absence of a separate overview and by long, run-on sentences that combine several comparisons without clear punctuation. The first salary paragraph, for instance, moves from freelance consultants to private companies and government in one extended sentence, making the relationships harder to follow. The final paragraph ends mid-comparison, so the response has no complete conclusion to its account. Use clear paragraphs for an overview and the key details, and make each sentence express one main comparison with accurate linking and reference.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “salary range,” “graduates,” “freelance consultants” and “Government Sector,” so the subject is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation problems make parts difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “salary range at,” “recorded at top of the table” and “slightly increase in graduates” are not natural ways to describe the data. There are also repeated spelling errors, including “Goverment,” “garduates” and “sigthly.” Aim for precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “earned” and “the highest proportion,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid calling the percentages “graduates” when the table reports the share of workers in each salary band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing attempts some longer sentence forms, including comparisons joined with “whereas” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences are incomplete or run together: “After completing their undergraduate degree course at one university” is a fragment, while “then it come to salary range” has an incorrect verb form. Agreement and sentence construction also cause difficulty in “There are 5% graduates who gets” and “which is 40% that more then Government Sector.” Punctuation is frequently missing, especially where one comparison ends and another begins. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships unclear. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use shorter, accurately punctuated comparisons before attempting more complex structures.
