Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main destination, correctly reporting that full-time work is the largest category at 52%, and you include several other figures. However, the response only partially covers the task: the salary table is barely reported, and the final sentence, “government sector have the largest percentages,” is unfinished and does not explain the salary distribution. The overview also makes an inaccurate comparison by saying the remaining categories have similar proportions; these range from 5% to 15%, and “not known” is omitted from the detailed figures. The claim that all employment types have more than 30% earning over $100,000 is broadly consistent with the table, but needs specific comparisons. The response is also 22 words below the required minimum. Develop the table summary and give a complete overview of the key contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on graduate destinations, and an attempted paragraph about salaries. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “From the table” signal shifts in focus. However, progression is limited because the salary paragraph stops after an incomplete statement, leaving one major part of the task undeveloped. The overview’s reference to “the rest” is also unclear, and the comparison between categories is not explained in a logical sequence. To improve, group the destination figures together, then compare salary bands across employment types, using clear links such as “by contrast” or “whereas” only when they accurately express the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “full-time work,” “part-time work,” “postgrad study,” “proportion,” and “salary,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “careers of graduated Anthropology students” is awkward, “gains the largest proportion” is not a natural way to describe a chart, and “percents” should be expressed as “percent” or “per cent.” There are also spelling errors in “Unempolyed” and “govenment.” Aim for accurate, conventional chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “salary band.” More precise vocabulary would also help you describe the table rather than relying on broad statements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You produce several understandable simple sentences and attempt more complex phrasing, for example, “There is a little proportion of doing part-time work while studying postgrad while the rest…” However, the range is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “most of graduated students,” which needs an article and a more suitable noun phrase, and “students who doing part-time jobs,” which is missing a verb form. “Full-time work gains the largest proportion” also has an unsuitable grammatical subject for the intended meaning. The final sentence is incomplete, so it does not form a complete clause. Practise complete sentence patterns for describing proportions and comparisons, and check articles, verb forms, and sentence completion before finishing.
