Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart illustrates what graduates from one university did after completing their undergraduate course and the table compares the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.

Overall, full-time work took the largest proportion, making it the highest destination of anthropology graduates, while part-time and postgrad study was the smallest. By contrast, Graduates in the government sector accounted for the highest figures, where half of them earned over $100,000 plus.

First, around 52% accounted for full-time work, making it the largest work. Compared with part-time and not known work recieving about 15 and 8%, respectively. Meanwhile figures for unemployed and full-time postgrad study represented 12 and 8%, respectively. Part-time work plus postgrad study made up 5%, making it the lowest.

regarding salaries, approximately 40% earned $75,000-99,999 and 100,000 plus as Freelance consultants, compared with 15 and 5% recieving income about $50,000-74,999 and $25,000-49,999, respectively. Graduates in the government sector had the highest figure, 50%, with $100,000 plus as salaries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both visuals and identify important features, including full-time work as the largest destination (52%), the smallest destination (5%), and the government sector’s 50% share in the top salary band. Most figures you report are accurate. However, the overview’s claim that government-sector graduates “accounted for the highest figures” is vague, and the comparison is incomplete: the table also shows that freelance consultants had 40% in the top band, while private-company employees were most concentrated in the $50,000–74,999 band (35%). The salary discussion gives only the freelance and government distributions, leaving private companies unreported. Develop the overview and include this contrast to make coverage of the task more balanced and precise. (Ten words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for graduate destinations and salaries. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish. You also use basic linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “Compared with.” However, some connections are awkward or incomplete. “Compared with part-time and not known work…” is a sentence fragment rather than a complete comparison, and “First” does not clearly signal the relationship between the figures that follow. The final salary paragraph stops after the government data, so the discussion feels unfinished. Use complete comparison sentences and organise the salary details across all three employment types to create a more consistent progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “destination,” “accounted for,” and “represented,” and the main information remains understandable. There are also some imprecise or unnatural choices: “the largest work” does not clearly mean the most common destination, and “earned … as salaries” is an awkward collocation. “Highest figures” is too general when describing the government-sector result; naming the salary band would be more precise. The spelling error “recieving” also detracts from accuracy. Aim for natural chart language and precise terms for categories and proportions, while checking spelling carefully. For example, describe a category as the “largest share” and say that employees “earned” a particular salary range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the overview clause “while part-time and postgrad study was the smallest” and the comparison beginning “Compared with…”. Most of the intended meaning can be followed, but some sentence structures are incomplete or awkward. “Compared with part-time and not known work receiving about 15 and 8%” lacks a main clause, while “First, around 52% accounted for full-time work” uses a construction that does not clearly identify what the percentage represents. In “half of them earned over $100,000 plus,” the wording creates an unclear grammatical relationship between “over” and “plus.” Build complete sentences around comparisons and use straightforward structures such as “Full-time work accounted for 52%” and “half earned $100,000 or more.”
