IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Several cultures believes that young individuals make progress if they try challanging enough. Youngsters who tough they will obtain any type of things contains a dependent mindset moreover these kind of kids are more straight forward and strong, this will lead them to accomplished their goals . In contrast sometimes working hard to got something are not enough. This will lead to waste their most of the time due to the fact some tast needs smartwork not hardwork.
Individuals who are able to do anything at any cost are more focused and confident towards their goals furthermore these type of people are mostly independant . For evidance, one of my friend Ahmad wants to become a cricketer however his family forced him to continue in a Computer field and become a softwere engineer. Although he worked fairly and continue his dream and a moment came when his family agreed and after some years he selected in national cricket team.
While on ther other hand some peoples think that if they work hard they will accomplish anything in their life however they are failed at the end because most of the material demands only smartwork not even hardwork. Waste of the time will demaged his career in future. For example, university assinged a assingment to his students and give the instructions to submitt it on time otherwise you will not be able to submit your tast. One of the them is using the Ai to complete his tast while other one is doining some planing or brainstorming and waste their most of the time by doing it while other come done his work and attached the file on portal on time other people who are not using Ai failed to do it.
In conclusion, the hardwork is very crucial thing but sometime you need to do some smartwork.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the question: it presents confidence, persistence and independence as benefits, then argues that effort alone may be insufficient when a task requires a more strategic approach. The cricket example gives the advantage a relevant illustration, and the assignment example attempts to support the disadvantage. However, the discussion is uneven: the first example is clearer and more directly connected to the message children receive, while the assignment example focuses on AI and time management without clearly explaining how this relates to children being told they can achieve anything through effort. The conclusion restates the contrast but does not draw the main points together. Develop each advantage and disadvantage more explicitly and keep examples closely tied to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is an overall structure, with an opening, discussion of benefits and drawbacks, examples, and a conclusion. The contrast is signalled with phrases such as “In contrast” and “While on the other hand,” so the reader can identify the intended sides of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, particularly in the long assignment example, where several actions and people are introduced without clear links. Some connectors are repetitive or awkward, and references such as “these type of people” and “other people” do not always make it clear who is meant. Use shorter, more focused paragraphs and sentences, and make each example’s sequence and connection to the main point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “focused,” “confident,” “independent,” “goals,” and “smartwork.” These choices show an effort to express ideas about motivation and strategy. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations, and spellings make meaning less clear, such as “dependent mindset” where the intended meaning appears to be self-reliance, “working hard to got something,” and “material demands.” Repeated use of “hardwork” and “smartwork” also restricts precision; these are better expressed as “hard work” and “working strategically.” Build a wider set of accurate phrases for persistence, realistic expectations, and effective methods, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses beginning “Although” and “While.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “Several cultures believes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Although he worked fairly and continue his dream” shifts verb forms and does not form a clear grammatical sequence. The assignment example also contains a long, loosely joined sentence that obscures who is doing each action. Practise accurate past-tense narration and agreement, and divide complex ideas into complete sentences with clear subjects and punctuation.
