Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 208 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, leading to an incomplete essay. While the prompt asks for both advantages and disadvantages, the response is cut off mid-sentence in the second body paragraph, meaning the disadvantages are not fully explored and no conclusion is provided. The position is identifiable, but the lack of completion and insufficient length prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with fully developed arguments and that the essay meets the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'while', 'when', and 'for instance', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'The phenomena, the main advantages...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow. To improve, focus on using transition signals more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete structure that contributes to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'unbelievable expectation' instead of 'unrealistic expectations' and 'brain storming towards learning'. Some basic vocabulary is used correctly, but there is a lack of precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic vocabulary appropriate for an IELTS essay, such as 'perseverance' instead of 'work hard' or 'innate ability' instead of 'natural ability'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it motivate', 'it do not have'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'The without any qualms other factor...'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often simple or contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
