Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 171 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which are presented in a list format rather than as a cohesive essay. While the prompt asks for advantages and disadvantages, the lack of depth and the failure to write in full paragraphs prevent a full development of the topic. The response addresses the core question but remains superficial, lacking the necessary expansion and supporting examples required for a higher band score. To improve, you must write full, well-developed paragraphs that explore each point in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is structured as a list rather than an essay, which negatively affects the overall coherence. There is no introduction or conclusion in the traditional sense, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal. While the points are logically grouped under 'Advantages' and 'Disadvantages', the lack of transition words and the fragmented nature of the text make it difficult to follow a logical progression of ideas. To achieve a higher score, you should use full sentences and paragraphs connected by linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', and 'on the other hand' to create a smooth flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected for higher bands. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'Bootes' (boosts), 'comfort zoom' (comfort zone), 'swear' (severe), and 'conc' (conclude). These errors, along with the informal list format, limit the lexical range. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread for spelling mistakes. Using more sophisticated collocations would also help demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar shows a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'adult must encouragement' (adults must encourage), 'there can achieve' (they can achieve), and 'there are personally at fa' (they are personally at fault). These errors in subject-verb agreement and word form are noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses and word forms are consistent throughout your writing. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will also help improve your score.
