Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of telling children they can achieve anything. The student presents a clear position throughout the essay. The advantages are identified as building positivity, a strong mindset, and reducing anxiety about outcomes, while the disadvantages relate to ignoring feasibility and the necessity of proper planning. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on realistic goals relies on a very brief example about the laws of science. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a recognizable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different main ideas. However, logical progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions and referencing issues, such as starting the second body paragraph abruptly with 'Giving message like this to childeren can be helpfull'. Cohesive devices are occasionally inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing is not always completely clear. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student displays an adequate vocabulary range to communicate ideas regarding the prompt, using terms like 'positive mindset', 'challenges', and 'realistic goals'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'culture' instead of 'cultures', 'achive' instead of 'achieve', 'adviced' instead of 'advised', 'fisiblity' instead of 'feasibility', 'avare' instead of 'aware', and 'dettirmental' instead of 'detrimental'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the quality of writing, placing the response at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'From the early age if children learn to try hard it will definitly benifite them in future challanges.' However, control over grammar and punctuation is weak, with frequent errors in basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children gets adviced'), and spelling that bleed into grammatical perception. While meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of structural and mechanical errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.
