Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the task. The prompt requires discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of telling children they can achieve anything. While the student mentions that hard work is needed and touches upon motivation, the exploration of both sides is minimal, and the text stops abruptly mid-sentence due to a severe word count failure. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met; the student's response contains only 158 words, falling 92 words short of the 250-word minimum, with 8 words copied from the prompt left uncounted. Ideas are severely limited and under-developed, preventing any clear progression or fully realized position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and the beginning of body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. The writing cuts off abruptly at the end, and paragraphing is underdeveloped because the final thought is left incomplete. Cohesive devices are attempted, but referencing and logical links between sentences are frequently faulty or mechanical, such as using 'therefore' and 'despite' somewhat awkwardly without robust supporting context. To move forward, the writer needs to group ideas into logically developed paragraphs with clear topic sentences and smooth transitions connecting one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for basic communication. The student attempts some less common phrases like 'non stop hard work' and 'achievable goal', but noticeable errors occur in word choice, spelling, and word forms, such as 'prons' instead of 'pros', 'sucessful' instead of 'successful', and 'capat' which trails off incomplete. These spelling and word-choice errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use correct spelling consistently, and employ more precise collocations suited to academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward clause structures, such as 'children are guided in that sense they can achieve anything' and 'Parents wants their chidren to be more stable then themselves'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and reveal poor control over basic agreement and verb forms. To progress, the writer needs to increase sentence variety and eliminate frequent basic errors through careful proofreading and practice.
