Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify relevant advantages, including motivation and the belief that children have equal opportunities, and disadvantages, such as unrealistic encouragement when circumstances are outside a child’s control. However, the response addresses the question only minimally: the points are listed rather than explained, and there are no examples showing how this message might affect children. The final advantage is left blank, and the discussion does not clearly explain when encouragement is helpful or when it could create problems. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so there is not enough development to cover both sides of the question adequately. Explain each point with a reason or example and make the effects on children explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The headings “Advantages” and “Disadvantages” make the two sides of your response easy to identify, and numbering gives the points a basic order. However, the response does not develop into a clear essay with an introduction, connected body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas appear as separate notes, and links between them are limited; for example, the second disadvantage moves directly from limited skills to luck without explaining the relationship. Some wording also makes the progression difficult to follow. To improve, group related points into paragraphs and use clear linking phrases to show cause, contrast, and examples, rather than relying mainly on numbered lists.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant words, such as “motivated,” “ability,” “chance,” and “control,” which helps communicate the general topic. However, the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice problems make several ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “equels chance,” “learing skills,” and “fieald”; the phrase “they got anything” is also unclear in this context. Build a more precise range for discussing encouragement and outcomes, such as “self-confidence,” “perseverance,” “realistic expectations,” and “limitations.” Check spelling carefully and choose phrases that express the intended meaning directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to express reasons and contrasts, including a conditional idea in “if they try harder” and a longer sentence beginning “If a person have less…”. However, sentence structures are very limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make meaning unclear in places. For example, “they got anything” does not use an appropriate verb form, while “a person have” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The long disadvantage sentence combines several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. Practise writing complete sentences with one main idea each, then check verb agreement and use conjunctions such as “because,” “although,” and “so” to connect ideas accurately.
