IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some civilization believe that By doing enough try hard then children can accomplish anything they want. There are some advantages as well as disadvantages.
The advantage is if anyone try hard work enough with consistency because consistency is also very much important, By following this things there is no one in the world who stop you from achieve things. For example, Imagine you have to make a bridge on river, you go to river check the conditions of river, soil of surrounding areas, environment means in which season i have to start work etc.. This things and planning of how to make flyover is completed by you and your team then from second day onwards you and other guys coming regularly and check regular stuff and also start to make bridge after putting lots of efforts you finally made pull as well as achieve your goal. This is the power of hard work and consistency.
The disadvantage is only doing hard work is not enough in this modern world, you have to also do smart work ass well. because in this fast pace era if you only do hard work than nothing going to change. For example, There are two students who are prepare for their upcoming examination. Both are same hard worker and intelligent but one got first place and other got second place in all past exam. The sole reason is one do only hard work but on the other hand second student is different he take other approach and do hard work with smart work that's why he gain vast amount of knowledge. He use internet to boost his knowledge.
Conclusion is only by doing hard work you achieve things but with hard work and smart work you accomplish extraordinary results.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: effort can help children reach goals, but hard work alone may not be enough. The bridge example supports the advantage by showing planning, persistence and a result, while the comparison between students illustrates the disadvantage of relying on effort without an effective approach. However, the discussion does not fully examine the specific effects of giving children this message. For instance, you could explain how it may build confidence and resilience, or how it could create unrealistic expectations or self-blame when success is not possible. The second example also focuses more on study methods than on the consequences of the message for children. Develop these implications to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. The examples are placed under the relevant points, and phrases such as “For example” help signal support. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the long bridge example, where planning, construction and the outcome are packed into one sentence. Linking is also occasionally mechanical, as in the repeated “The advantage is” and “The disadvantage is,” and references such as “this things” are unclear. Use shorter sentences to separate stages of each example, and connect ideas with more precise transitions. This would make the organisation easier to follow while retaining the clear paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “consistency,” “conditions,” “approach,” and “boost his knowledge,” and the reader can generally understand your examples. There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as distinguishing “hard work” from “smart work.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “some civilization,” “make flyover,” “made pull,” and “vast amount of knowledge.” Repetition of “hard work” and “things” also limits precision. Choose vocabulary that fits the intended meaning—for example, “cultures,” “build a bridge,” and “gain substantial knowledge”—and check word forms and spelling. More accurate, varied phrasing would help you express your ideas with greater clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if you only do hard work” and clauses introduced by “because.” This shows some range, and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “anyone try hard work,” “who stop you from achieve things,” and “There are two students who are prepare.” Some sentences are also joined with commas or run on for too long, especially in the bridge example, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and use full stops to divide long explanations. Greater control of these structures would improve clarity.
