IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries, people told her childrens to get anything. Many cultures allowed to get achieve anything without any hesitation. It has both advantages and disdvantages first advantage is a child has many confidence in his life. he can do anything. He is good in his studies and personal and professional life. The disadvantage is he is very bold. If he know he can do anything he is not affair to anyone. They don't respect elders.
The first advantage is their parents trust him they built thier confidence they provide anything for him. If the child says i want to become a doctore, enginner, or artist they always with them. thats why this message is benifit for a child carrer. For example a child wants to go abroad for higher study their parents allow to move another country. Its vey best message for thier childrens.
However, the disadvantage is when a child know he can do anything. So he can go any where without thier parents permission. Then they meet bad guys. And they start crimes becuase their parents permission him go to anywhere. They start drugs alcohol and many other crimes. For example their parents allows him they can go anywhere without any permission. than they go. If they have no money they became theift.
In my opinion, every parents trust thier childrens ang built their confidence bul also they told them if they do anything without thier permission they have authority to punish them. They also told them follow the rules and achieve anything with rules and regulations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both advantages and disadvantages and give a final view: parents should encourage children while also setting rules. The examples about supporting a child’s career and studying abroad are relevant, as is the concern that freedom without guidance could expose children to risks. However, the ideas are only partly developed. The claim that confidence makes a child “not respect elders” is asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of crime, drugs and theft makes a broad leap from the message to serious outcomes. Clarify that the message can encourage ambition, but may create unrealistic expectations if it is not balanced with limits and effort. A more consistent explanation of how each outcome follows would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: it introduces the topic, discusses benefits, presents disadvantages and ends with your opinion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these parts, and transitions such as “However” signal a change in direction. At times, though, progression is difficult to follow because points are repeated or connected mechanically. For example, the idea that a child can “do anything” appears several times without adding a new explanation, while “Then they meet bad guys” moves abruptly from going out without permission to crime. References such as “they” and “him” are also unclear in places. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, then explain its consequence and give a focused example; use pronouns only when their reference is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “confidence,” “higher study,” “permission,” and “rules and regulations,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice problems that sometimes strain understanding. Examples include “disdvantages,” “doctore,” “enginner,” “benifit,” and “theift.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “many confidence,” “they always with them,” and “became theift.” Build a more accurate set of expressions for discussing ambition, parental support and boundaries, and check spelling carefully. Choosing precise collocations rather than repeating “do anything” will help communicate your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple patterns, and you attempt some longer constructions with “if,” “when” and “because.” However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For example, “If he know he can do anything he is not affair to anyone” has problems with verb agreement and sentence construction, while “when a child know he can do anything” repeats the agreement error. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “a child has many confidence” and “The disadvantage is he is very bold.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, complete sentence forms and punctuation first; then build longer sentences by joining a clear main clause to one supporting clause.
