Student answer (Band 6.0)

In some nations around the globe, people from countryside are moving towards urban areas, so the population in country side is decreasing. Although urbanization will allow people to get high wages employment and industries will get more labours, I believe that it is a negative development because it will put strain on authorities and also it will cause decrease in the number of workers in rural areas to do agriculture and fishing.

Nowadays, in many countries individuals are moving from rural areas into the cities this is causing less people to remain in the countryside and more in the cities. Firstly, urbanization is giving opportunities to people to work in high prestigious companies at a very high wages. This is to say people coming to cities in search of jobs will easily find one because of large number of companies is present, so they can easily find top position in one of the corporations. Secondly, increase in urban population means increase in labour work force. Therefore, these corporation find it convenient to find cheap labour which will ultimately increase there output.

On the other hand, people moving from disadvantage areas towards cities also placing more strain on the city authorities to accommodate the hordes of people, create jobs for these people and to resolve the traffic problems. This is because huge number of people is putting pressure on government to build more apartments for these people to live, state is also responsible for their employment so they have to provide more jobs. The increase in population means rise in the number of vehicles which ultimately cause traffic congestion, so state has to widen the roads and also introduce traffic rules. The decreasing population in the countryside also putting huge negative impact on the rural areas. This is because less number of people in rural areas means least number of farmers and labour workforce to cultivate crops and do fishing. This will decrease the crop yield and will cause scarcity of food and also fishes.

In conclusion, while urbanization is providing opportunities to the people to work in top companies and also providing cheap labour to companies, I believe that it is a negative development because is is placing more pressure on government to give jobs and homes to people and is also causing traffic problems, moreover, because of this it is also harming agriculture and fishing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration negative, despite acknowledging employment and business benefits. You address both sides and give relevant consequences, including pressure on housing, jobs and traffic, as well as fewer workers for farming and fishing. These points answer the question directly. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that fewer rural workers will cause food scarcity would be stronger with a specific explanation or example of how this affects supply. The benefits of urban employment and cheap labour are also less connected to your overall evaluation. Develop the cause-and-effect reasoning and support key claims with a concrete example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph describing urbanisation’s benefits, a paragraph explaining its disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing within the main paragraphs is generally understandable, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the argument. At times, however, linking feels mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into the long paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” The repeated use of “This is because” and “so” also makes connections predictable. Consider separating the pressures on city authorities from the effects on rural production, and use clearer referencing and a wider range of transitions to show how each point develops.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urbanization,” “labour workforce,” “traffic congestion,” “crop yield,” and “scarcity of food.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms show an effort to be precise. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “high prestigious companies,” “high wages employment,” and “hordes of people.” “Corporation” is also repeated, and “there output” contains a spelling error that affects accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “well-paid jobs,” “prestigious companies,” and “increase their output.” More precise vocabulary, used consistently and without awkward combinations, would strengthen the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “while,” and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless recur. For example, “people from countryside” needs an article, while “This is causing less people to remain” has an incorrect comparative form and sentence construction. In “people moving … also placing more strain,” the verb “are” is missing; “a very high wages” has an agreement problem; and “because is is placing” contains a repeated word and an incomplete clause structure. Long sentences joined by commas also make punctuation less controlled. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for repeated words.
