Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there is a trend of people moving from rural to cities, which has resulted in decreasing the population in countryside. I believe this is a positive development because there are more opportunities and facilities in cities than in rural part.

Firstly, people could get access to everything in cities because of good transportation in city whereas, it takes more time in village. They have to travel to long distance even to go to school. Cities are more developed as compared to rural because of the development in basic infrastructure like transport, health, and education. Also, the hospitals and schools are very far from where people lives. Therefore, sometimes people lost their lives due to delay in services. For example, people in remote areas are still uneducated, which makes country lagging behind the development. They are unaware about basic knowledge like personal hygiene.

In addition to this, city provides people with better opportunities like, job and other facilities. They could get a better job, which makes them independent and skilled. It helps people fulfill their dream and achieve whatever they want in their life. For instance, people in cities have access to everything, which makes their lives easier, but people have to live miserable lives in villages just because those resources are not available.

In conclusion, as people started to move to the cities, various changes has been made in regards to education, hospitals and transportation. They become aware and independent, which has somehow helped in the positive development of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration positive because cities offer more opportunities and facilities. The response stays relevant and gives supporting points about transport, education, healthcare and employment, with examples such as long journeys to school and limited access to hospitals in remote areas. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that rural residents “live miserable lives” is broad, and the link between migration and national development in the conclusion is not fully demonstrated. The discussion also focuses mainly on benefits for individuals, with little consideration of wider consequences of a shrinking countryside. Develop each main reason with a more specific explanation or example to make the argument more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates the positive position. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “In addition to this,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. Some cohesion is mechanical, however, because paragraphs rely heavily on these formulaic transitions and repeated references to cities and villages. A few links between ideas are not fully clear: the example about personal hygiene follows the point about education but its relevance to migration is not explained. The reference “They become aware and independent” is also unclear because the reader must infer who “they” refers to. Use more precise referencing and show the relationship between each example and its main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “infrastructure,” “remote areas,” “independent,” and “opportunities,” which helps communicate your main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “positive development” and “basic infrastructure.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “moving from rural to cities,” “travel to long distance,” and “country lagging behind the development.” Repetition of “cities,” “people,” and “facilities” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more precise expressions for migration, access to services and economic effects, and check that words combine naturally. This would make the argument sound more fluent and appropriately academic without changing its clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “whereas.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the population in countryside” needs an article, “where people lives” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “various changes has been made” has incorrect agreement and verb form. The sentence beginning “They have to travel…” also has an incomplete or incorrect distance construction. Punctuation around “whereas” and “like” is sometimes misplaced, and some long sentences would benefit from clearer clause boundaries. Review articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence punctuation, while continuing to practise complex structures; greater accuracy would make your ideas easier to follow.
