Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are many countries in the world where people prefer to live in cities and leave their villages. As a result villages population has been decreasing. However, I believe that it's a negative development.
There are several reason why people prefer to live in cities. Firstly, there are alot of better facilities such as hospitals, big grocery stores, schools and colleges nearby, therefore people leave their houses and settle in cities. For example, my own family lived in village but few years ago we settled in city for my studies. Secondly, villages lack of employment facilities there are many people who are unable to find a good job with more opportunities that is why they move to cities. For instance, all industries and companies are located in urban areas.
I believe that it's a negative development because countryside has becoming less populated. Furthermore, more people in cities are contaminating the city life by their activities which leads to bad environment as noise pollution, air pollution and water pollution, because all industries are in urban side. In addition , cities have unhealthy lifestyle there is no fresh food, fresh air and lack of physical activities, individuals remain busy in their houses and in office work as a result they face some diseases like, asthma, genthia, and heart diseases.
In my opinion , the Government should improve the infrastructure of rural areas to maintain the population of villages, by introducing facilities the issue of employment will be automatically solved because children will get education and will gain knowledge about improving their farming field and will work in other institues as, hospitals, and schools.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration a negative development, and the conclusion proposes improving rural infrastructure. You also give relevant reasons, including access to education and healthcare, limited employment, and pressure on the urban environment. The family example adds personal support. The response therefore addresses the question, but some points are less fully explained than others. In particular, the claims that city life lacks fresh food and causes diseases are broad and would be more convincing with a clearer explanation or a specific example. To strengthen the argument, explain more directly how declining rural populations harm communities, and develop each main reason with precise supporting detail rather than adding several claims briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why people move, a paragraph outlining negative effects, and a concluding recommendation. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” help readers follow the main points. However, some connections are mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the discussion of employment and the final paragraph about education and jobs. The relationship between rural decline and the listed urban problems is not always made explicit. Use clearer topic sentences and divide complex points into shorter units; also make references such as “the issue” more precise. This would make the progression smoother while preserving the overall organisation already present.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “employment,” “infrastructure,” “population,” and “pollution.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “physical activities” and “employment facilities.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “villages population,” “lack of employment facilities,” “contaminating the city life,” and “urban side” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling and word-form errors, including “alot,” “institues,” and “genthia,” also reduce control. Build a more reliable range of collocations for migration, rural services, and environmental effects, and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures with “because,” “which,” and “as a result” to explain causes and consequences. The main message remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries are noticeable. For example, “villages population has been decreasing” needs a possessive form and plural agreement, while “countryside has becoming” has an incorrect verb form. Some sentences join several independent ideas with commas, as in the employment explanation, making the relationships harder to follow. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and use full stops or semicolons to separate complete ideas. More accurate control of these structures would make your varied sentences clearer.
