Student answer (Band 6.5)
In most countries throughout the globe, villagers are shifting toward the modern cities for better opportunities. As a result, the number of people in rural areas are going to decrease. The migration towards urban region is good for their future but there are also some negative and positive impacts of it on the society. In this essay, we will discuss these impacts.
Many people thought that if they move to big cities, they will easily settle in their life. This thought is developing in countryside people, which results in the migration of large number of people in metropolis areas. One major negative consequence of this behaviour is that the population of villages goes on decrease rapidly. the urban areas are high polluted when number of people increases such as; traffic problems increases which could be life threatening in certain cases. For example; A horrible car accident in Lahore results in the death of five people of one family and others were seriously injured. When people do not get equal opportunities of development in their specific area, they decide to shift to modern and prosperous areas. the population of villages is on decline which can also badly affect the country's economy. some of the countries export crops for a good profit which is then used for starting new projects in the country. When farmers leave the village, there will be no one available for irrigation and agricultural duties. As a result, indirectly it affects the economy of the country. When urban areas become over-populated, they will also face poverty, unemployment and inflation, which results in in crimes and a bad reputation of society comes in view.
In conclusion, public should develop awareness about these bad consequences. Government should provide equal opportunities to the poor areas of the country. so they will get equal rights to participate in happiness like rich areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative impacts of rural-to-urban migration. However, the position is not consistently clear throughout the essay. While the introduction mentions both sides, the body paragraphs focus heavily on negative consequences, leaving the 'positive' aspect mentioned in the introduction largely unexplored. The ideas are relevant but could be more fully developed; for instance, the link between urbanization and economic decline is a strong point, but the example provided (the car accident in Lahore) is not directly relevant to the core argument about rural depopulation and agricultural loss. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are balanced and supported with more pertinent examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the discussion of traffic accidents and the economic impact of agricultural loss is abrupt. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother progression of ideas. The use of punctuation, particularly the misuse of semicolons and commas, occasionally disrupts the logical flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'metropolis', 'inflation', and 'irrigation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the urban areas are high polluted' (should be 'highly polluted') and 'a bad reputation of society comes in view'. The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety of collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the number of people... are going to decrease') and article usage ('the urban areas', 'the population of villages'). Punctuation errors are also noticeable, such as the incorrect use of the semicolon in 'increases such as; traffic problems'. These errors do not typically impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction would be beneficial.
