Student answer (Band 7.0)
In many countries around the world, an increasing number of people are relocating from rural areas to cities, leading to a decline in the countryside population. While this trend has both advantages and disadvantages, I believe it is a positive development because it provides better employment opportunities and access to improved public services.
The primary reason why this is a positive development is that cities offer better employment opportunities. People who move to urban areas often have access to a wider range of jobs and higher salaries, which can improve their standard of living. example, people can switch the jobs easily in cities as there will be more no of opportunities with good package.
Another reason is people working remotely can have good network connectivity to work. Since some of the underdeveloped rural areas doesn't have the Wi-Fi facility available.
A further advantage is that cities offer access to a better education system. Urban areas generally have well-equipped schools, renowned universities, and highly qualified teachers. As a result, students receive a higher quality of education and have greater opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills. For example, many students move to cities to attend prestigious universities that provide better academic resources and career prospects. Therefore, this trend can improve their future employment opportunities and overall quality of life.
In conclusion, I believe that the migration of people from rural areas to cities is a positive development. This is because it provides greater employment opportunities and access to better education, ultimately improving people's quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the migration is a positive development. The main ideas—employment and education—are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph is quite brief and lacks a fully developed example, while the third paragraph is more substantial. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is fully extended with specific, detailed evidence rather than general statements. The conclusion effectively summarises the main arguments, maintaining a consistent stance throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another reason', and 'A further advantage' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother, and some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the overall flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'relocating', 'standard of living', and 'prestigious universities'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'more no of opportunities' and 'good package', which are not standard academic collocations. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoiding informal or repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some of the underdeveloped rural areas doesn't have') and minor punctuation or phrasing errors ('example, people can switch'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
