Student answer (Band 7.0)

In this 21st century, the world is transforming into the modern era. Everyone wants to upgrade their life style and hence they are migrating from countryside to urban areas. This is a positive development in my opinion and the reasons for the same is discussed in the ensuing paragraphs.

First and foremost, relocating from rural to developed areas will give massive opportunities to individuals. This will help them financially and will cater their needs. Additionally, there will be possibility for the government authorities to buy the land who were living in less developed areas and will plant to set-up different industries which can help for the growth of the nation and will contribute to the GDP of the country. For instance, Government of China, is helping families to settle in urban cities and giving them financial help and leases or buys their land for industrial purposes or for farming which will contribute in country's overall growth.

On the other hand, there are various families who used to follow narrow minded cultures which are conventional. As they will move out of villages they will change their perspective and will adopt new habits, cultures and traditions. Moreover, relocating to developed regions will give them access to different amenities like better healthcare, improved education, higher wages and many more. To give an instance, Government of India had taken an initiative to provide free healthcare and education facilities to individuals who are moving to cities in search of employment.

To conclude my opinion, there are several positive developments which include better wages , part of contributing in growing economy, inheriting new cultures and traditions and better facilities which can make life easier for many of the individuals and their family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that rural-to-urban migration is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on economic growth, industrialization, and access to better services. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of 'narrow minded cultures' is a broad generalization that lacks nuance and could be considered insensitive. While the examples provided (China and India) are relevant, they are described in a very general way. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific analysis of how these changes impact the individual or society, rather than just listing benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the discussion of land acquisition and the example of China is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing in the second paragraph ('who were living in less developed areas') is slightly unclear. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'transforming', 'migrating', 'industrial purposes', and 'amenities'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cater their needs' (should be 'cater to their needs') and 'part of contributing in growing economy' (should be 'contributing to a growing economy'). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise academic collocations that would elevate the response to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the reasons for the same is discussed' (should be 'are discussed'), 'buy the land who were living' (incorrect relative clause usage), and 'Government of China, is helping' (unnecessary comma). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
