Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of rural-to-urban migration. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the points regarding agriculture and food security are mentioned but not fully explored with depth. The position is somewhat clear, but the structure lacks a formal introduction and conclusion, which hinders the overall task response. The inclusion of the example about China is relevant but lacks a clear connection to the specific issue of rural depopulation, making the argument feel disjointed. To improve, you should ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and more detailed supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a standard academic structure, such as an introduction, body paragraphs with clear transitions, and a conclusion. The use of headings like 'ADVANTAGES' and 'DISADVANTAGES' is not appropriate for an IELTS essay. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, leading to a disjointed flow of ideas. For example, the transition between the advantages and the disadvantages is abrupt. The paragraphing is also problematic, as the text is broken into very short, fragmented sections. To improve, focus on using linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', and 'on the other hand' to connect sentences and paragraphs logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'so many advantages' and 'good life' are overly simplistic. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'population decreasing' instead of 'depopulation' and 'export stooped' instead of 'exports are halted'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and precision in word choice prevents a higher score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to urbanization, socio-economic trends, and agricultural sustainability.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every farmer move', 'China have'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, lacking proper punctuation. For example, 'if every one moved to the city who is run the rural areas' is grammatically incorrect and difficult to follow. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with few attempts at complex or compound structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
