Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an undeniable fact that people prefer to live in cities in today's contemporary epoch. In this modern era, people are moving to cities for more job opportunities and better lifestyle which somehow decreases the population of countryside. The upcoming paragraphs will discuss whether it is a positive or negative development, I believe that it bring more beneficial outcomes but it do have some limitation.

It is an irrefutable fact that young people are attracted to live in urban area as they get more facilities like better healthcare, education and job possibilities. Firstly, large cities provide productive environment to an individual, where they can interact with new people, work with each other. Secondly, urban areas have advance technologies in healthcare and more medical amenities which is hardly seen in rural areas. Moreover, the great infrastructure of cities attracts the tourists which create economic growth. In addition, cities are well equipped with proper electricity supply, transportation and internet access. Students can have better future as they have access of good schools and universities.

As there will be less population in the countryside it can affect the production of agriculture goods and economic growth of country. People moving to cities rapidly, which can cause unemployment because there will be a great demand for jobs. Moreover, the environment will be polluted because of carbon emission, garbage waste and unnecessary use of water. In addition, there will limited worker left to work in factories which is run by human force. Furthermore, there will more noise pollution because of traffic jams and conjunctions.

The inexorable description on this topic can keep on going but observing the finer nuance, I would like to espouse my notion that there should be proper balance in both rural and urban lives. As both plays an important role to make economic growth of country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of rural-to-urban migration. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent; while you state in the introduction that you believe it brings 'more beneficial outcomes,' the body paragraphs provide a balanced view without a clear, sustained argument. The ideas are relevant, but some points, such as the impact on agriculture or the specific causes of unemployment, are mentioned briefly rather than fully developed with concrete examples. To reach a higher band, ensure your position is clearly maintained throughout the essay and provide more detailed explanations for your supporting points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Moreover,' to link your points. However, some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, in the third paragraph, the phrase 'which is run by human force' is slightly awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including some sophisticated items like 'inexorable,' 'espouse,' and 'contemporary epoch.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, you use 'conjunctions' when you likely meant 'congestion,' and 'advance technologies' should be 'advanced technologies.' Furthermore, 'human force' is not a standard collocation in this context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, the occasional inaccuracies in word choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on learning the specific contexts in which these more advanced words are used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, subject-verb agreement issues are present, such as 'it bring' instead of 'it brings' and 'it do have' instead of 'it does have.' Additionally, there are errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'in urban area' (should be 'in urban areas') and 'access of good schools' (should be 'access to good schools'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to limit your score in this criterion.
