Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, a lot of people migrate to cities and prefer living in bigger towns which results in a significant decline in villge's population. There are few advantages and disadvantages of it but I believe this is a positive change as living in cities may privide you with a number facilities you can not get in the rural areas.

First of all, living a life in city is way more convenient then living in the countryside. You may find a lot of ease in almost every aspect of life. For example, there is a variety of hospitals and health care organisations present in cities which are not easily found in the rural areas. Last year, there was a medical emergency in my neighbourhood and they instantly took the patient to the nearby hospital. In this way, they saved a life just because they had enough medical facilities in the city which are rarely present in most of the villages.

Additional, cities always surpass villages in terms of overall lifestyle as you live in a modern infrastructure which grooms the individuals naturally by providing them with better living standards and education. You can find a variety of big educational institutes which are not typically found in rural areas.

Moreover, there are some negative aspects as well as we may see a decline in agriculture if large number of people migrate to cities. Also living in countryside provides you with a deep connection with nature and keeps you away from city noise and pollution.

In conclusion, I think this is a positive development as living in a city provides you with a lot of comfort and convenience in almost every aspect of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the migration is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on healthcare and education as primary benefits. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the healthcare point is supported by a personal example, the discussion on education and the counter-argument regarding agriculture are quite brief and lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of these points rather than simply listing them. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it could be more nuanced by acknowledging the complexity of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Additional' (which should be 'Additionally'), and 'Moreover' to signal transitions between ideas. While the progression is generally clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate. For instance, 'Additional' is used incorrectly as an adverb. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the drawbacks. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'it', 'this') is always precise to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'migrate', 'infrastructure', and 'medical emergency'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'villge's' and 'privide', and some word choice issues, such as 'living a life in city' instead of 'living in a city'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and ensure that your spelling is accurate. Avoid informal phrasing like 'way more convenient' in favor of more academic alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'a lot of facilities you can not get' (missing preposition 'in') and 'if large number of people' (missing article 'a'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and refining your control over complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
