Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries the numbers of people are moving from rural areas to cities, which has a result of decreasing in the population of countryside . Although this trend can create some challenges, but i believe this as a positive development because in the cities there are a lot of opportunities for jobs and better education and medical treatment compared with the rural areas.

One major benefit of moving from rural areas to cities is the better job opportunities. In rural areas job opportunities are limited to the farming and working in a small businesses, while in the cities there are a lot of industries such as textile industries, electronics companies and a shoes making industries and a person can find a job easily, which are matching with his skills and degree. According to the 2010 survey in Brazil, the opportunity of getting job in a city is three times higher than getting a job in villages.

Another important advantage is access to better education and medical facilities. Cities have generally more universities, schools, colleges and hospitals than rural areas. Therefore, people move to urban center to obtain high quality education and better medical treatments. There are better chances to start and grow your own business compared with rural areas because there are a lot of consumers and demand. For example, a restaurant in a city get more customers compared with rural areas restaurants.

In conclusion, although the movement from rural areas to city may reduce the population in the countryside, i consider it to be a positive development overall. Better environment, education, employment, medical facilities, and other services.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the movement to cities is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on job opportunities, education, and medical facilities. However, the development is somewhat basic. While you provide a survey example regarding Brazil, the explanation of why this is positive could be more nuanced. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and lacks a full sentence structure, which limits the depth of the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with a clear link back to the overall positive impact on society.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One major benefit', 'Another important advantage', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'which has a result of' in the introduction, which is slightly awkward. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the final paragraph is a list of nouns rather than a cohesive concluding statement, which affects the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'urban center', 'medical facilities', and 'job opportunities'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'shoes making industries' (should be 'shoe-making') and 'a restaurant in a city get more customers' (subject-verb agreement). You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'in the cities' and 'in rural areas' by using synonyms or varied sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'the numbers of people are moving' (should be 'numbers of people moving'), 'although this trend can create some challenges, but i believe' (double conjunction error), and 'a shoes making industries' (article and pluralization errors). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over articles, subject-verb agreement, and complex sentence construction.
