Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 154 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and lacks a proper conclusion. While the writer identifies a clear position—that the migration is a negative development—the arguments regarding agriculture and healthcare are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The response addresses the prompt, but the lack of length prevents a full exploration of the topic, resulting in a fragmented and underdeveloped argument that does not meet the requirements for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows some attempt at logical organization through the use of transition words like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion'. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present but ineffective due to the abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, such as the transition between the personal example of the friend and the broader impact on the agriculture sector. The lack of a completed conclusion further disrupts the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'diminishing of local residents population' and 'heavily lack of farmers'. The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'agriculture' and 'migration', but the overall control is weak. Spelling errors, such as 'eduction' and 'sufer', are present. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms are used in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('villages population gradually declined'), verb tense usage ('I was noticed'), and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
