IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In many countries around the world, rural people are moving to cities, so the population in the countryside is decreasing.

Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, many individuals from rural areas have been relocating to cities, leaving fewer people left at the countryside.In my view, this is a largely positive development because more poeple could have better opportunities to employment and access public service.

One of the main reasons is urban areas offer wider options of employment because mostly of the work sectors are present in this area. Rural areas has limited job opportunities because of there are littleor no industries that offer stable income opportunities. For instance, cities has a wide range of almost different sectors in health,technology and education. As a result, individuals can choose to apply to these jobs and have higher income and enjoy better way of living.

Another advantage is metropolitan has better structures and instant access to public services. Many people wanted to have an easier and quick access to their basic needs, because these things are difficult to acquire in rural areas. The city has many cutting-edge technologies and infrastructures to enjoy. For example, highly urbanized area has good schools, modernized hospitals and faster transportations. People can greatly take advantage of these conveniences that the city offers. Thus, individuals who have moved to bigger cities significantly experienced the improvement of their life.

In conclusion, although moving from countryside to urban areas can result to fewer number of people living there, I believe there are advantages that can be seen such as having more opportunities to land a higher paying jobs and better experience of convenience the city has to offer.
