Student answer (Band 4.5)

The rural people are moving to cities for their best opportunities and for getting the more facilities for for that the cities has increasing the population and the countryside has decreasing the population. For this happening that is is bad thing for countryside because in the country side the people gives us many things like desi food, and these people are pure from their heart and they make neat and clean of their area but when they can not get the more facilities from their side then they moves to the city. I think so that that thing is a negative development, because our ciuntryside area are also a part of our nation so people should stay there otherwise the ciuntrysie area will be empty in the future and all thepeople will be shiftting in the cities soon. Other reason is that for this happening the city has increasing the population from these people and in the city has increasing the rush. And when the city population are increasing then definality the people will be facing more problems in the city. That is not good development because in this way the ciuntryside people will be in the compitation and they thinks that our neabour shit to the city and they have many facilities now but we stuck in this area we should move on and shift to the city then this compitation will be damaged the population of the countryside. I thinsk so that the govt should be work on this and gives the majour facilitices to the countryside people for staying there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing the negative impacts of rural depopulation, such as urban overcrowding and the loss of traditional village life. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. Expressions like 'pure from their heart' and general statements about people moving to cities are under-developed and lack extension. The position is discernible—arguing that this migration is a negative development and that the government should intervene—but the reasoning lacks academic depth and relies heavily on emotional assertions rather than structured arguments. Consequently, the response sits at Band 5.0, as it addresses the task and forms a position, but the ideas remain restricted and somewhat disjointed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks proper paragraphing, presented as a single, dense block of text, which significantly hinders readability and organization. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying on repetitive phrases such as 'for this happening' and 'and then' to link clauses. There is no clear progression of logic; instead, ideas circle back on themselves regarding urban rush and rural competition. Paragraphing is entirely absent. While the overall topic remains somewhat visible, the lack of structural markers and logical transitions results in a score of 4.0 for coherence and cohesion, as information and ideas are not arranged coherently.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and non-standard phrasing such as 'desi food', 'pure from their heart', 'ciuntryside', and 'majour facilitices'. There are multiple spelling mistakes ('shiftting', 'compitation', 'neabour', 'thinsk', 'definality') which occasionally impede communication. The student attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'development' and 'facilities', but these are heavily overused and often placed in incorrect collocations. The lexical range is minimally adequate to express a basic personal opinion, aligning closely with the Band 4 descriptors due to basic vocabulary and strain caused by errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' or 'because'. There are frequent and persistent errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and article placement, such as 'the cities has increasing the population', 'people gives us', and 'the govt should be work on this'. Complex sentences are attempted, but they are almost invariably faulty and tangled, as seen in 'That is not good development because in this way the ciuntryside people will be in the compitation and they thinks...'. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, leading to a band score of 4.0.
