Student answer (Band 6.0)

With much greater developments happening in urban areas, individuals from rural area are moving towards cities, therefore causing a significant decrease of population in the countryside. I highly believe that this is a negative development and the government should take meassured actions to solve the problem.

On the one hand, cities provide every basic human need. With a considerable amount of facalities any individual can consider. If we are to look for the reason why people are moving towards the city, we will find the reason very convenient. It is understandable that cities have better hospitals, road, structure, entertainment source, education and job opportunties. Life in city is quite easier than of life in country side. A common case that occurs everywhere in rural areas is that when a person is dignosed with a disease, the very first thing he hears is that the clinic does not have the required equipment to cure the illness and the person would need to go to a hospital in city. For instance, a man had a car accident and injured his head, he went to a emengercy room but the hospital did not have required machinery leading to the reason of man's death.

Other than that education is very limited in the countryside. With the race of achiving better, education has become a key aspect in life. Every individual that wants to succeed in life has to obtain higher education, so people move towards cities for knowledge. For example, a student who is interested in technology would need to take admission in a prestige university that provides all the facilities on technology. Furthermore, country sides do not have much source of entrainmet, which makes people want to escape into a brighter place. One main aspect of city life is that it also provides better job opportunties in different field, whereas in countryside category of fields is limited, becoming a reason why people to cities. Moreover, the 40% economy of a country depends upon countryside. It is the main source of furits and vegetable, therefore if the people were to move to cities, the economy will be affected. In addition, cities have already become a crowded place for existing.

In conclusion, the government should take actions as soon as possible to stop the negative development. The government should see the need of people in rural areas and provide them with proper facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by clearly stating a position that the rural-to-urban migration is a negative development and supports this stance with relevant arguments regarding infrastructure, education, employment, and the agricultural economy. The ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing how the agricultural sector impacts the country's economy and how healthcare limitations in rural areas lead to severe consequences. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or lack tighter cohesion in development. For instance, the transition into discussing the agricultural economy feels somewhat abrupt within the paragraph. Overall, the task is addressed well, matching the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7 descriptor where all parts are addressed and positions are clear.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the body paragraphs tackle distinct aspects of the prompt. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Other than that' and 'Moreover, the 40% economy' feel slightly unnatural or awkward. Paragraphing is utilised, but the second body paragraph becomes very lengthy and crams multiple disparate ideas—education, entertainment, employment, and the economy—into a single block of text rather than logically dividing them. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'leading to the reason of man's death', which weakens the flow of ideas. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 6 territory for organisation and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'considerable amount', 'dignosed' (misspelled), and 'infrastructure' (attempted via 'road, structure'). However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the essay, including 'meassured', 'facalities', 'opportunties', 'dignosed', 'emengercy', 'achiving', 'prestige' (for prestigious), and 'entrainmet'. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the context remains clear, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher lexical band. The writer has sufficient vocabulary to make their points, but precision and accurate spelling require further development, aligning with Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and participial clauses (e.g., 'If we are to look for the reason why people are moving towards the city...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues, missing articles ('Life in city is quite easier than of life in country side'), and incorrect prepositions ('take admission in a prestige university'). Punctuation and word forms also show recurring inaccuracies. Although communication is rarely impeded and the reader can follow the intended arguments easily, the density of grammatical slips keeps the score at Band 6, reflecting a mix of structures alongside persistent errors.
