Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the negative impacts of rural-to-urban migration on cities, such as environmental degradation, traffic congestion, and housing issues. The writer's position is clear from the beginning, stating that this is a negative development for cities. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack deep extension. While the writer mentions the loss of green spaces and increased pollution, these points are repetitive and underdeveloped. The scope of the essay focuses heavily on city problems while largely ignoring the broader implications for the countryside, as mentioned in the prompt. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is weak, and the overall organization feels disjointed. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with frequent reliance on basic linkers like 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'at the end'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'to to due this cities face many problems', which disrupts the flow of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks clear thematic unity, leading to a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms like 'population', 'cities', and 'villages'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'full fill' instead of 'fulfil', 'empty places' instead of 'open spaces', and 'losses day by day' instead of 'disappearing'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'indiviulas' and 'benefical'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, but the frequent inaccuracies place it at a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing auxiliary verbs ('are migrate'), incorrect prepositions, and structural fragments like 'In the today's world, most of the individuals are migrate'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and comma splices throughout the response. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in untangling the intended meaning, the grammar fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
