Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses the prompt by clearly taking a position that the movement of rural people to cities is a positive development. Key ideas such as employment opportunities, lifestyle improvements, and better educational facilities are introduced to support this stance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth or specific real-world examples. For instance, the mention of amenities in cities versus villages is kept quite general without fully exploring the socio-economic impacts. While the task is adequately addressed, the arguments remain at a somewhat superficial level, fitting the descriptors for Band 5.5 to 6.0. The ideas are relevant and support the overall thesis, but greater elaboration and specific examples would be needed to push into the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response displays an overall logical arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the topic, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and transitions are at times faulty or mechanical, as seen in 'this paragraph will throw some lights' and repetitive introductory phrases. Paragraph transitions could be smoother, and some sentences feel disjointed. Despite these weaknesses, the progression of ideas is generally clear, matching the criteria for a Band 5.5 or 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic arguments about employment, education, and lifestyle. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'sophisticated', 'metropolis', and 'amenities', but these are often accompanied by word choice errors, awkward collocations, or spelling mistakes, such as 'devloped', 'empolyement', 'lern', and 'exectra'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight limitations in lexical control. The range is sufficient to convey the main points, earning a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('villagers are migrate', 'Individual get'), incorrect tense usage ('if companies publish... unemployement... is gradually reduce'), and missing articles. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, their high frequency affects the overall readability and accuracy of the writing. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
