Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that many people in the rural areas are moving to cities, and the population in the countryside is decreasing. This statement has both positive as well as negative impacts.

People are moving to the cities because of lack of several facilities, such as lack of education, lack of hospitals and job oppurtunities. Now a days, people become aware to become educated and independent. But in rural areas, there are no good schools and job oppurtunities were not appropriate. Even for basic medical facility, people have to move towards the big cities. If a person is in critical condition and doctor ask him to take to some other big hospital then it become risky, because patient can die ehile travelling to big city. So thats why people prefer to live in a city which have all the basic necessities and facilities and thats why population is increasing in the cities

But the major advantage of people moving towards cities is the fact that more people are becoming educated. Education is increasing self-awareness to all the people. It is reducing the illiteracy and crime ratios. Women are becoming financially independent and wrong marriages will no longer destroy the life of girls. But yes it is making the cities populated. Traffic is increasing the air pollution and resulting in a condition named as smog. Smog is a condition which is really injurious to health and it is due to the pollution.

In my opinion, government should take extra steps to built good schools and hospitals in the villages as well. So, people dont need to move to the cities if they have all the basic facilities in their hometown.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative impacts of urban migration, ultimately presenting a clear, albeit simple, position. The ideas regarding lack of facilities and the educational benefits in cities are relevant, but they tend to be somewhat under-developed and repetitive. For example, the student mentions a lack of schools and job opportunities multiple times without expanding significantly into deeper economic or sociological arguments. Furthermore, the final paragraph unexpectedly introduces a recommendation for the government rather than maintaining a strict focus on whether the development is positive or negative. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, though paragraphing is somewhat irregular and ideas within paragraphs can feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or overly simplistic, relying heavily on words like 'So', 'Because', and 'But'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun shifts ('doctor ask him...'). Progression is present, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical rather than fluid. This corresponds to a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to migration, education, and health ('independent', 'facilities', 'illiteracy', 'air pollution'). However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('oppurtunities', 'ehile', 'built' instead of build) and occasional awkward word choices. Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision or natural collocation. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to allow communication, placing it solidly at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures ('If a person is in critical condition...') and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency ('people become aware', 'job oppurtunities were not appropriate', 'doctor ask him'), alongside punctuation issues. These errors occasionally cause strain or require the reader to re-read, though they do not completely impede communication. This performance aligns with Band 5.5.
