Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that in many countries people from rural areas are migrating to cities. In my opinion this is negative development, although it has some benefits.

In positive side, some people are going to the cities. There are many goods things for us in the cities. There are many hospital in the cities for children there are many schools in it . Many colleges and university are in the cities. The main cause of migrating people into the cities because in cities there are many facilities such as Hospitals, Schools, Colleges, Universities. But most of the young people go for there jobs because there are no any jobs in the villages. For example in the Lahore there are many jobs in the companies.

In negative side, many things in the market price are also be increased. For example, Rice, Wheats, and many others things. There are no any jobs for all the people. In the markets many crowed can be it. The main cause is there are no any house in the cities because many people can be live i n the rant house. Therefore, people can be uncomfortable in the cities. The young people of the village go to cities the only old people can be live in the village because a children can be live in the cities his old parents are lonely in the village.

In conclusion, although moving to cities gives people better opportunities, it create serious problems for both cities and villages so, it is a negative development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of rural migration to cities, and clearly states a position that it is a negative development. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion of positive factors relies heavily on listing facilities like hospitals, schools, and universities without extending them into fully articulated points. Similarly, the negative aspects focus on congestion, housing issues, and rural elderly isolation, but these points are expressed somewhat simply. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of explanation places this response firmly at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing, dividing the response into an introduction, a body paragraph for advantages, a body paragraph for disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of smooth transitions between sentences. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'In positive side' and 'In negative side' instead of standard transitional markers. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in sentences like 'there are many schools in it' and 'many crowed can be it'. These structural limitations and repetitive patterns reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing words like 'cities', 'people', 'jobs', and 'villages'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'market price are also be increased', 'goods things', and 'rant house' (rent house). While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'migrating', the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The errors in word choice occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, aligning the response with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, such as tense and preposition issues ('go for there jobs', 'in the Lahore'), subject-verb agreement problems ('many hospital', 'price are also be increased'), and unnecessary auxiliary verbs ('can be live'). These frequent errors can cause strain and difficulty for the reader, placing this criterion at a Band 5.0 level.
