Student answer (Band 6.0)
in many parts of the world, an increasing number of people are leaving rural area and setteling in cities, which has led to a ecline in the countryside population. while this trend offers several benefits, i belive it is largely negative developments because it creates problem for both overcrowded cities and decling rural communities.
on the one hand, moving to cities can improve people's quality of life. urban areas generally provide better employment opportunities, high salaries, and easier access to education and healthcare. for instance, many young people in india move from village to cities such as ahmedabad to benguluru to study at university and secure well paid jobs in the technology sector. this migration can increase their income and improve their future career prospects.
on the other hand, the disadvantages are more significants. as more people leave village, farming activities may decline, leading to labour shortages and reduced agriculture production. in addition , school, hospitals, and local businesses in rural area may cloe beacuse their are not enough residents to support them. at the same time , cities often struggle to cope with the growing population. overcrowing can result in traffic congestion , arising house costs, pollution, and pressure on public services. a clear example,is mumbai, where rapid population growth has contributed to heavy teffic and expensive housing,, making life more difficult for many residents.
in conclusion, although moving to cities can provide individuals with better career opportunities and public services, i believe the overall impact is negative. governments should encourage balanced religiobal developments by improving infrastructure, education, healthcare , and employment opportunities in rural area so that people are not forced to leave their hometowns.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout that the movement of rural people to cities is largely a negative development. The student supports this position with relevant ideas and examples, such as mentioning cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, as well as discussing agricultural production and infrastructure strain. The main ideas are extended and supported adequately, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. However, some arguments could be explored in greater depth to reach higher bands. Overall, the task response is clear and fully relevant to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into four clear paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing different perspectives, and a conclusion. There is a logical progression throughout the text, transitioning smoothly from the benefits to the disadvantages of urbanization. Cohesive devices such as 'on the one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'in conclusion' are used effectively. However, referencing and local cohesion are sometimes affected by mechanical errors in punctuation and spacing, such as 'at the same time ,' and 'in addition ,'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, resulting in a coherent overall arrangement that fits Band 6.5 comfortably.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'infrastructure', 'employment opportunities', and 'urban areas'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'setteling', 'ecline', 'decling', 'significants', 'agriculture' instead of 'agricultural', 'cloe', 'beacuse', 'their' instead of 'there', 'overcrowing', 'arising' instead of 'rising', 'teffic', and 'religiobal'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause structures through conditional and concessive clauses such as 'although moving to cities can provide individuals with better career opportunities...'. However, there is a total lack of capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns ('india', 'ahmedabad', 'mumbai'), alongside punctuation errors like double commas ('housing,,'). Grammatical errors and punctuation flaws occur frequently throughout the response, which places the writing firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
