Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary world, individuals for backward areas are migrating to urban centers, which leads to reduce population in rural areas. Although this transformation may causes population congestions in cities, I believe this is a positive development. The main reasons behind this view are higher facilities for education and employment ;moreover, it provides higher proportion of land for agricultural activitie

A primary benefit is many individuals can access better educational facilities. Urban centres provide convinence for learning, and individuals can also explore variety of employment opportunities. In this way there will be more educated people. For example, many children who live in cities are well-educated because they have better leaning environment and career prospects.

Another advantage of mobility towards cities is countries may have more fertile land for natural vegetation. When countries have more land in rural areas they can grow more crops and vegetables, which are ultimately beneficial for overall economy. This process not only provide healthy products for humans but also provide more employment opportunities for individuals in rural areas. For instance, many families in pakistan leave rural areas and relocate in cities, and they handover their lands to farmers in rural places for irrigation purposes. In return they get natural wheat or rice from them.

In conclusion, the large segments of rural areas are moving in urban areas for improving lifestyles. From my perspective, this is a positive development because this transformtion give access to more educated society and more natural food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that urban migration is a positive development, supporting it with ideas such as education, employment, and agricultural land consolidation. However, the response has a few noticeable limitations. Firstly, the length requirement is not met, as the text contains only 245 words, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of task completion. Additionally, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs tends to be somewhat repetitive or generalized. For instance, the second body paragraph states that 'children who live in cities are well-educated', which borders on over-generalization. Because the task is only partially addressed in terms of length and development depth, the criteria for Band 6 are best matched here.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical or abrupt, and cohesive devices are occasionally misused or awkwardly placed. For example, the transition 'moreover, it provides higher proportion of land' lacks smooth integration, and referencing is occasionally faulty, such as 'this transformtion give access' where pronoun and demonstrative links are repetitive. Furthermore, punctuation errors in paragraph boundaries (like missing full stops or broken endings as seen in 'activitie') detract slightly from the flow. Overall, the organization is clear enough to follow easily, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'contemporary', 'consolidation' (implied), and 'prospects'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'backward' instead of 'backwards' or 'underdeveloped', 'convinence' (convenience), 'leaning' (learning), 'activitie' (activities), and 'transformtion' (transformation). Word choice and collocation are also imprecise in places, such as 'higher facilities' instead of 'better facilities'. While communication is not severely impeded, these frequent inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 5.5 due to noticeable slips in word formation and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional or dependent clauses such as 'Although this transformation may causes...' and 'When countries have more land...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('this transformation may causes'), missing articles ('a higher proportion', 'in pakistan'), and capitalization errors. Complex structures are often slightly faulty or lack precision. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains discernible, aligning the response with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range. On balance, because errors in grammar frequently recur and can cause some difficulty, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
