Student answer (Band 6.0)

The rural urban migration is becoming a matter of concern in every country around the world. The people move from the rural to urban areas for a number of reasons, There are better education opportunities, accessable health options, better job market and finally modern life styles. However, this migration has adverse impacts on the rural as well as urban living.

The population living in rural areas is getting deacreased day by day which has poor consequences for the rural life, There are less people avaialable for work on the farming as well as for livestock. The agriculture sector is always a backbone of the country's economy, It is not only the source of self sufficiency of food but also strengthens the exports. Many other industries also use agricultural output as raw material. So, the poeple migration to cities may disrupt the growth process of industries and the economy overall. On the other side, people moving to cities create more demand of all goods and services making them more competitive and put upward pressure on prices. Their is another disadvantage of moving to cities by creating more demand of transportation which is becoming a source of pollution in cities now a days.

In conclusion, my point of view considers this shift as negative development because of more disadvantages than benefits. I am living in a city that was a small city few years back. But now the huge migration of people has created suffocation, pollution and population pressure. On the other side, countryside areas have become less populated and lost the rural life culture overall.

However, moving people to cities cannot be restricted generally. Somehow, the solutions should be found to retain people in the countryside by providing the better facilities at their doorsteps.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response effectively addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that rural-to-urban migration is a negative development. The student covers all parts of the task by discussing both the negative impacts on rural areas, such as a decreasing population and a declining agricultural sector, and the negative consequences for cities, such as pollution and population pressure. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of agricultural output and personal city-living experiences. Although some ideas could be slightly more deeply developed, the overall task coverage aligns well with the Band 7 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are grouped into logical paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing distinct points, and a concluding section. The writer uses cohesive devices to connect ideas, such as 'However', 'On the other side', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are instances of faulty punctuation and comma splices that make the flow somewhat mechanical at times, such as '...reasons, There are better education opportunities...' and '...economy, It is not only...'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, supporting a Band 6.5 or 6 score, and fits best within Band 6 due to mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'substantially', 'competitive', 'suffocation', and 'disrupt the growth process'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'deacreased' instead of 'decreased', 'avaialable' instead of 'available', 'accessable' instead of 'accessible', and 'Their is' instead of 'There is'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary remains sufficient for the task requirements, matching Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as 'The population living in rural areas is getting deacreased day by day which has poor consequences...' and 'I am living in a city that was a small city few years back.' However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, including comma splices and incorrect prepositions like 'work on the farming'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 7.
