Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing why people move from rural areas to cities, presenting some reasons such as better infrastructure, electricity, hospitals, and employment opportunities. However, the position stated in the introduction is incomplete, as the student says 'I partially agree with this point of view that it is a positive development,' but only provides arguments supporting the positive aspects without balancing the negative consequences. Furthermore, the response suffers from a significant length penalty, containing only 228 words, which falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum. Consequently, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the task is only partially addressed in terms of length and full position articulation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some basic organization, but lacks clear overall progression due to the absence of a proper body paragraph structure. The text is largely collapsed into one massive block of text after the introduction, making it difficult to follow the transition of ideas. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover,' 'Furthermore,' and 'For instance,' referencing and paragraphing are not managed effectively. The lack of standard paragraph breaks significantly hinders the logical flow of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'modern infrastructure,' 'advanced technology,' and 'employment opportunities.' However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'furnised beautifully,' 'They can facilitate themselves,' and 'huge quantity of people' instead of 'large number of people.' Spelling and word formation errors occasionally cause some difficulty, but communication of the core ideas is generally maintained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout the text, including 'who are living in villages cannot utilize facilities, which are provided,' 'are having advance technology,' and 'are living migrating to cities.' Punctuation errors also appear, such as a missing full stop at the end of the sentence containing 'great reputation'. While meaning is usually decipherable, errors are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
