Grammatical Range and Accuracy5.0
Overall5.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, primarily because it falls significantly short of the required word count, containing only 205 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. Furthermore, the position is not always clear, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. Although the writer attempts to discuss both positive and negative developments, the arguments lack sufficient elaboration and relevant supporting examples. For instance, the discussion on environmental impact mentions that 'traffic generate air pollution which effect on individuals life' without expanding further or providing concrete details. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the full word length is met, clearly state a position throughout, and extend all main ideas with well-developed supporting points and specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the repetitive use of 'To begin with', 'First and foremost', and 'Initially'. Additionally, referencing and logical transitions between sentences are sometimes faulty, making the flow somewhat mechanical and difficult to follow. For example, the sentence 'To begin with, negative development population is increasing in rural areas which effect on urban side' creates confusion regarding the direction of the population shift being discussed. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one with clear signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'traffic congestion', 'employment opportunities', and 'environment pollutants', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as writing 'effect' instead of 'affect', or 'over crowd' instead of 'overcrowding'. These inaccuracies can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and use less common lexical items with greater precision, paying closer attention to word formation and correct collocations in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'Nowadays, technology changed lifestyle which effect on individuals life' and 'its gives good facilities which makes their life easier'. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the meaning and can cause noticeable difficulty. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with a significantly higher proportion of error-free sentences and improved control over basic grammatical rules.
