Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. Instead of presenting a clear personal position on whether the movement of rural people to cities is a positive or negative development, the introduction confusingly claims to discuss 'both positive and negative side' despite the prompt asking for a definitive opinion. Furthermore, the text heavily relies on repetitive copying of the prompt and instructions, such as 'In many countries around the world, rural people are moving to cities, so the population in the countryside is decreasing,' which wastes valuable space and contributes very little original content. Ideas related to better opportunities, education, and health options are introduced but remain limited and under-developed, lacking specific support or elaboration beyond general assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The introduction is particularly disjointed, featuring repetitive sentences and a contradictory announcement about discussing both sides rather than maintaining a consistent stance. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs do not flow logically from one to the next; for instance, the second paragraph abruptly introduces problems in the countryside, while the third shifts to rural development without smooth transitional phrasing. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitively, such as 'Moreover,' 'In conclusion,' and 'In many countries,' which fails to connect ideas naturally and makes the progression difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive phrasing, continually reusing words and phrases like 'better opportunity,' 'better education,' and 'moving to cities' throughout the essay. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'helth' (spelling), 'effect' instead of 'affect,' and awkward collocations like 'seeking job and many things' and 'accommodation facility.' While communication is achieved despite these limitations, the constant repetition of vocabulary and lack of less common items restrict the effectiveness of the expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Government sould maintain this trend,' missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and poor punctuation. For example, clauses are often strung together incorrectly without proper conjunctions, as seen in 'many people moving to cities nowadays for better opportunity seeking job.' These frequent errors cause difficulty and strain for the reader, and the lack of error-free complex structures prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of accuracy.
