Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries around the world, people who live far away from large cities are moving to cities, population is decreasing.

Overall, Many people moves to cities for better environment and studies for their children's. So that's why population in the large cities is decreasing.

First of all, A rural people who lives in backward areas of their countries. Where no facilities for them. There are no schools, hospitals and better houses for them .They live in rough house. As soon as they growing, They want better jobs, environment, studies and opportunities. If anyone face difficulty in any situation, they have to come to the city. If anyone feel sick, they have to come to city for better medicine and treatment. In the rural areas, they have no opportunities for travelling. If any festival comes in the year, they have to come to city for shopping for their families.

In the cities, We have countless facilities. If we are facing any kind of disease. We will just reach at hospital in just ten to fifteen minutes. We have better opportunities for studies. We have better apartments for the individual We have clear roads. In the cities, Every streets have its own park for morning walk and exercise. We have a large amount of stadium for cricket, football and badminton etc.

From my perspective, This is positive because as fast they move to cities. They will have better opportunities, schools, hospitals and office. If they face any kind of disease, they just reach at hospitals in just five minutes. As soon as they move to cities. The country will be succeed as soon as possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that the rural-to-urban migration is a positive development because cities offer better facilities and opportunities. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer mentions reasons such as education, healthcare, and employment, but these points are expressed in a repetitive and generalized manner without much elaboration or specific examples. The conclusion attempts to summarize the stance, yet the main arguments rely heavily on listing basic facilities rather than exploring deeper socio-economic impacts. To reach the next level, the writer needs to extend and support each main idea with more detailed explanations and relevant examples from their own knowledge.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates some basic organization with an introductory statement, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, but it lacks clear overall progression and logical sequencing between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, yet the internal flow of ideas feels disjointed because cohesive devices are either absent or inappropriately used. For example, transition phrases like 'First of all' and 'In the cities' are used, but referencing is frequently unclear, and sentences often start abruptly without smooth links to the preceding thought. Furthermore, repetition of similar ideas disrupts the logical development of the essay. To improve coherence, the writer should ensure that each sentence logically builds on the previous one and that paragraphs are unified around a single central topic with stronger cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic words and simple phrasing, such as 'better environment', 'countless facilities', and 'better opportunities', which are repeated throughout the essay. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'rough house' instead of temporary or basic housing, and 'a large amount of stadium' instead of a large number of stadiums, which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some broader concepts, the lack of precision and variety restricts the range. To progress, the writer should incorporate less common lexical items, improve collocations, and pay closer attention to word formation and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic sentence patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are numerous issues with verb forms, tense consistency, and sentence fragments, such as in the opening sentences where clauses are incorrectly punctuated as separate sentences, and expressions like 'as fast they move to cities' or 'Every streets have'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also problematic throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate a better mix of complex sentence forms with improved control over punctuation, agreement, and tense accuracy.
