Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, a number of rural people are migrating to the cities. This has led to population decrease in the countryside.Although this trend may contribute to over-congestion in the cities, I believe this is a positive development as migrant will get both education and employment opportunities.Additionally they will also get exposed to Digital world.

Urban areas have better education facilities. This give individuals a great opportunity to advance in their career.Syllabus in the city is well organised and teachers are well trained. As a result, students tend to receive all the instruction they need.If an individual is exposed to such type of training, they have a higher chance of excelling in their career.

Additionally, Manufacturing companies and prestigous organisations prefers having their officies in the city than in the countryside. Therefore, greater work opportunities are in urban areas than in rural areas. If an individual re-locates to the city he/she may have a better chance of being employed than in the villages. For example in the rural Malawi the only work opportunity you can find is working in the fields which is less paying while in urban areas you will find a lot of opportunities like piece work, sells personel and office assistants.

Technology in the cities is more advanced than in the countryside. This gives people living there the exposure they may need so that even when they go abroad they will not have problems in settling in. For instance, students who migrate directly from the countryside to study overseas have problems in adapting to the new environment. Moreover, it is difficult to access technology advanced gadgets like computors, cash machines and smart phones in the countryside.

In conclusion moving to the cities has more benefits than staying in the countryside as people tend to find more job opportunities, better education and exposure to the technology world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that the rural-to-urban migration trend is a positive development. Throughout the essay, ideas are extended and supported with relevant arguments, such as access to better education, employment opportunities, and technological exposure. For instance, the reference to rural Malawi provides a tangible and specific example supporting the economic argument. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, and some arguments could benefit from deeper elaboration rather than relying on brief statements. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need to be more fully developed with tighter integration of supporting evidence across all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with education, moving to employment, and finally discussing technology. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to guide the reader, such as 'Additionally' and 'For instance'. However, paragraphing and referencing show minor mechanical faults, and transitions between some sentences could be smoother. For example, sentences like 'Additionally they will also get exposed to Digital world' lack punctuation and integration. To achieve a higher score, the writer would need to employ cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing remains precise and unobtrusive throughout the entire text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 're-locates', 'migrants', and 'over-congestion'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, inappropriate word choices, and spelling errors that prevent the essay from achieving a higher score. Examples include 'prestigous' instead of prestigious, 'officies' instead of offices, 'sells personel' instead of sales personnel, and 'computors' instead of computers. Furthermore, phrasing like 'technology world' could be expressed more naturally. While communication is not impeded by these slips, the recurring errors in spelling and collocation indicate that vocabulary control is still developing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional clauses ('If an individual re-locates to the city...') and relative clauses effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical slips include missing articles ('exposed to Digital world'), capitalization errors ('Manufacturing companies and prestigous organisations prefers...'), and punctuation lapses like missing commas after introductory phrases. Although the writer shows good control over many sentence structures, occasional lapses in agreement and article usage prevent the essay from demonstrating the frequency of error-free sentences required at the next level.
