Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, as the minimum length requirement of 250 words is not met, with the essay containing only 240 words. Furthermore, the position regarding whether the migration from rural to urban areas is positive or negative is stated at the beginning, but the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, the student attempts to give reasons such as pollution and overcrowding, but these points are tangled and unclear, lacking proper examples or logical extension from personal knowledge or experience. The discussion tends to wander into unrelated thoughts about social status and apartments without fully connecting them back to a well-supported argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the response. Although some basic cohesive markers are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand', the overall logical progression is weak. Paragraphing is attempted, but individual paragraphs contain disjointed sentences that jump between different ideas without smooth transitions. For instance, the second paragraph abruptly shifts from pollution to water issues and then to crowd sizes without clear connections, making the overall arrangement difficult to follow and causing the reader to lose the thread of the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that frequently strain the reader. The student relies on elementary words and phrases like 'day by day' and 'big reasons', while attempts at less common vocabulary result in significant errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'plethora of reasons', 'negative impcat', 'aer very croweded', 'transfored in', 'acedemic perfomance', and 'attaract'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips reveal a limited range that struggles to convey precise meaning appropriately for this academic task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, and errors are frequent throughout the text, often distorting the intended meaning. Simple sentence forms predominate, and attempts at more complex structures are consistently faulty. There are recurrent issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and sentence fragments, as seen in expressions like 'which can negative impcat of people's health', 'Some countries have not a clean water', 'many countries aer very croweded', and the incomplete sentence ending with 'the'. These persistent grammatical inaccuracies require the reader to frequently decode the intended message.
