Student answer (Band 6.5)
Over the years, most people seem to be migrating from the rural settlements to the cities, thus, drastically decreasing the population of the people in the countryside.
In this essay, I will be giving the reasons why I believe that the migration is indeed a positive development.
To begin with, it is comnom knowledge that development resides where the people do. The availability of human capital is a major driving force for efficency and innovation in cities which in turn affects the ccountry at large. The econimic growth of a country would depend on how efficent the cities to which thy belong are. To illustrate, the Federal Bureu of Statistics in 2023 released that France increased GDP of 9.1% came within 6 months of the surge of citizens coming from the countryside to Paris.
In addition, people would have better and quicker access to social amenities that might not be available in the rural areas. Majority of the highly rated educational instituitions are located in the city. For example, 17 of the 20 best universities in the world according to Times Higher Education 2025 are located in the cities. Furthermore, access to quality health care is another positive development. People with more complex ailments can easily get in contact with the best medical practitioners in the field where they have such diseases.
In coclusion, it is a postive development in a situation where more people move from the rural areas to the cities as it greatly increases the efficiency and innovation of the cities as well as the access to improved social amenities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you consider rural-to-urban migration positive. You support this view with two relevant lines of reasoning—economic efficiency and innovation, and improved access to education and healthcare—and include examples such as universities and medical practitioners. This addresses the question and gives the reader a consistent answer. Some support, however, is asserted rather than fully explained: the link between population growth and city efficiency could be developed further, and the France GDP statistic is presented without explaining how it demonstrates the claimed effect. The healthcare point is also less specific than the education example. Explain the mechanisms and use examples that clearly substantiate each claim to make the argument more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the progression, and the examples are placed alongside the points they support. Some linking is a little formulaic, and the first body paragraph moves quickly from human capital to efficiency, national growth, and a statistic without fully showing the connections between them. The conclusion also repeats the main claims rather than drawing them together. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its evidence explicit to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “human capital,” “innovation,” “economic growth,” “social amenities,” and “complex ailments.” These choices help communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use more precise or less common language. However, spelling errors such as “comnom,” “efficency,” “econimic,” and “instituitions” are noticeable, and some expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “the cities to which they belong” and “get in contact with the best medical practitioners.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the accuracy and naturalness of the vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for discussing migration, public services, and economic development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “where they have such diseases” and a conditional structure in “in a situation where more people move.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “the economic growth of a country would depend on how efficient the cities … are” needs a clearer, complete construction, while “France increased GDP of 9.1% came” has a faulty clause structure. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as the comma joined directly to “thus” in the opening sentence. Practise building complex sentences around one clear main clause, and proofread for sentence boundaries, articles, and agreement.
