Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countrues, people are leaving rural areas to live in cities, which is causing the inhabitants of countryside are alleviating. I believe this is a negative development becuase it can cause issues for both rural communities and urban areas.

One major reason why individuals are moving to cities is the availability of better job opportunites. Urban areas usually have have more companies and factories, which provide handsome salray and annual allowancce. Moreover, cities provide better education and healthcare amenities. As a result, people are moving toward urban areas to improve their living standard better higher salary. For example, many young individuals are moving toward cities becuase they need to provide basic nessities to their gardians.

However, this trend has several negative effects. Firstly, rural areas face shortage of workers particularly in agriculture. When young people leave their village, fewer individuals remain for cultiviation crops and produced food. This can negatively impact on agricultural production and economy. Secondly, the increasing number in urban population put presssure on housing, transport and public services. Consquently, the city may face traffic congestion, air pollution and shortage of accomdation. In addition, inhabitants of urban areas may face shortage of new employment becuase rural individuals are encroaching their chances for government jobs in different sectors. As a result, the condition of may become vague to live.

In conclusion, althoug, moving to cities can provide people with better employment, education and healthcare. From my perespective, it is a negative development becuase it weakens rurual communities and creates additional pressure to urban infrastructure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration a negative development, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both sides of the issue by acknowledging better jobs, education and healthcare in cities, then explaining effects on rural agriculture and urban services. These are relevant reasons, and the examples about young people seeking work and fewer people cultivating crops help support them. However, some points are less fully explained: the claim that rural migrants reduce local people’s chances of government jobs is not clearly connected to the wider argument, and the effects on rural communities could be illustrated more specifically. Developing these points and explaining their consequences more precisely would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why people move, a paragraph outlining negative effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Moreover,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In addition” help readers follow the main points. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As a result” introduces the claim about urban employment and living standards, while the relationship between rural migrants and competition for government jobs needs clearer explanation. The phrase “the condition of may become vague to live” also interrupts the flow because its meaning is difficult to follow. Use linking phrases that show the precise relationship between ideas, and make references and concluding statements clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “agricultural production,” “traffic congestion,” “air pollution,” and “public services,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “annual allowance” and “rural communities.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “inhabitants … are alleviating,” “handsome salary,” “cultiviation crops,” and “the condition … may become vague to live.” Several misspellings, including “opportunites,” “becuase,” and “accomdation,” further reduce precision. Build a reliable range of natural collocations for employment, migration and living conditions, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is causing…” and a conditional structure in “When young people leave their village…”. This gives the response some structural variety, and the main argument is usually understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and agreement remain, as in “which is causing the inhabitants of countryside are alleviating” and “the increasing number in urban population put pressure.” The conclusion also begins with “although” but does not complete a dependent clause before the full stop. Articles and plural forms are sometimes missing or inconsistent, and some sentences combine ideas without a clear grammatical relationship. Practise checking each clause for a complete verb structure, subject–verb agreement and correct sentence boundaries.
