Student answer (Band 5.5)

In an increasing number of countries all over the world, people are migrating from the countryside to the cities, therefore there is a decrease in population in the rural areas. In my perception, it is absolutely a negative development as cities can be over crowded along with it can cause unemployment issue.

To begin, now a large number of population intend to move to urban areas from villages. When cities are over populated, it leads to grow traffic congestion in the metropolitan zones. As a result, the emissions from the vehices are increasing as well as the noise pollution which can lead to serious health deseases such as lung cancer, bronchitis, hear impairment. Aprat from these, excessive amount of noise can disrupt the brain development of the children. Moreover, there will be scarce of sufficient work opportunities. Therefore, a number of dwellers of cities can be jobless if rural people continue to settle there. To exemplify, it is reported that unemployment has become a major challenge for the large towns to overcome such as Dhaka, Delhi.

On the other hand, there are a wide ragne of facilities such as educational, medical, technological are available in cities. Thus, if people live there, they can lead a advanced life compared to the rural areas. However, the disadvantages are inevitable.

To sum up, I believe that moving to cities from rural zones can be a negative trend which is explained in the aforementioned points of view such as it can make the cities over noisy and many people can be jobless.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration a negative development, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, particularly congestion, pollution and competition for jobs, and the examples of Dhaka and Delhi help connect the argument to real cities. You also acknowledge the counterpoint that urban areas offer better education, medical care and technology, so the response addresses both sides of the issue. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. For instance, the link between migration and unemployment is asserted rather than showing why city job creation cannot keep pace, while the health effects of noise and emissions receive several claims but little explanation. Develop each main reason with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph presenting disadvantages, a paragraph acknowledging urban benefits, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “To begin,” “As a result,” “Moreover,” and “To sum up” make the sequence of points easy to follow. However, the progression within the main paragraph is crowded: traffic, emissions, health effects, noise, and unemployment are introduced in quick succession, so the relationship between these points is not always clear. The transition “On the other hand” also introduces a counterpoint that is dismissed immediately, rather than being developed and weighed against your position. Group related ideas into clearer stages and use referencing and transitions to show how each point supports your overall argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “traffic congestion,” “noise pollution,” “metropolitan zones,” and “unemployment,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as naming “bronchitis” and “hearing impairment.” However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward: “vehices,” “deseases,” and “Aprat” should be corrected, while “over crowded” and “scarce of sufficient work opportunities” are not natural collocations. “A large number of population” is also imprecise. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding complex terms; proofreading spelling and checking collocations would make your vocabulary more effective and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause (“if rural people continue to settle there”) and cause-and-effect structures (“When cities are over populated, it leads…”). The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “as cities can be over crowded along with it can cause” joins clauses incorrectly, and “it leads to grow traffic congestion” uses an incorrect verb pattern. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “a advanced life” and “there are a wide range of facilities.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, particularly in “there. To exemplify,” where a space is missing. Practise accurate clause joining, verb patterns, and agreement while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
