Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays in many nations individuals living in rural areas are moving into metropolitan cities in search of better opportunities and as a result there has been considerable decrease in rural population. I firmly believe that is a constructive development.

People usually consider rural life peaceful whenever compared to cities but in plenty of nations individuals are leaving the countrysides and settling in the major cities. The major reason of this trend is in the rural areas there is limited scope for people as the job opportunities are limited usually in countryside majority of people often rely on farming, Whereas big cities often provide wide variety of employment opportunities. And in conurbations there are better payrates compared to rural areas , for instance in New delhi and mumbai majority of people are outsiders and from agrarian background they often come they reach to major cities for better jobs and good salaries. As a result they earn better than their fellow villagers who refuse to leave the countryside.

While major reason being running after employment opportunities. There are some other aspects aswell that contributes in this trend usually rural places often lacks student infrastrucuture and there are limited schools and little to no universities so for further education parents usually migrate to big cities with their children as major cities provides better infrastrucutre for the learners. Moreover, the healthcare facilites and basic human needs are available in major metropolitan cities. For example majority of Punjab is rural and people residing there face underdeveloped schools and hospitals. As a result people started to move to nearby cities like chandigarh and the migration resulted in better standard of living and improved literacy rate of rural individuals.

In conclusion, People migrate from countryside in hopes of better employment and for better living. As rural areas often lacks learning institutions and healthcare facilities. But it also results in better standard of living for rural people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider rural-to-urban migration a constructive development, and the conclusion returns to improved living standards. You address relevant reasons, including employment, education and healthcare, and the examples of Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab help make the discussion concrete. This meets the task well, with some elements showing the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the positive effects are mostly asserted rather than examined: for example, the claim that migration improves literacy is not explained, and the conclusion does not weigh possible costs to rural communities. Develop the consequences more fully and connect each example explicitly to why the overall change is positive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around reasons for migration, and a conclusion. The progression from employment to education and healthcare is generally understandable, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The second body paragraph opens with the fragment-like transition “While major reason being running after employment opportunities,” and several ideas are joined by repeated “and” or “as a result.” The conclusion also repeats earlier points without clearly synthesising them. Use complete topic sentences, vary linking methods, and make references such as “this trend” or “this” clearly point to a specific idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “employment opportunities,” “agrarian background,” “healthcare facilities,” and “standard of living.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms show an effort to be precise. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “payrates” is not the natural form here, “student infrastructure” is unclear, and “major cities provides” reflects an incorrect word form. Spelling errors such as “infrastrucuture” and “facilites” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “educational facilities” and “higher wages” rather than less idiomatic combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “whenever,” and “so,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, sentence boundaries and clause construction. For example, “rural areas often lacks” should have a plural verb, while “While major reason being running after employment opportunities” is not a complete sentence. In “the job opportunities are limited usually in countryside,” the article and word order need attention. Commas also sometimes join long clauses without clear punctuation. Practise building complete sentences around one main clause, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation in longer sentences.
