Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, it is a trend that people are migrating to urban areas from rural areas, while public in rural areas is falling. I will discuss that wether it a good sign that people are moving to major cities from less developed regions or it is a bad thing.

Firstly, people move to cities for better opportunities such as jobs and better way of life. Cities are the developed areas of a country, where there are infrastructure is developed and health facilities are better than the rural areas. People seek better health care, high paying jobs and better roads all these things are there in big cities. Cities offer high quality education many people just move to the cities for higher education. All these positive aspects of major cities attract the public to move to these cities.

Moreover, when more and more people migrate from rural areas to the urban, population of cities rise and causes stress to the cities. Heavy traffic in cities is the significant problem of this migration which degrade the infrastructure such as roads and bridges. It is also affecting the environment more burning of fuel is causing air pollution is big cities. Furthurmore, increasing population of urban areas is making the competition for jobs and admission to the institutions more difficult. Inflation is rising because demand is increasing and supply is decreasing as land is being occupied for the contruction of new buildings.

To conclude, I believe that this migration is causing a negative impact on cities more than it has a positive impact. To adjust more and more public in cities land is being used to make building rather it is used for growing food. People are striving for healthy air in major cities because air pollution became a big problem in cities, due to rising number of factories. Though it has some positive aspects such as people get goof health benefits and best quality of higher education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question and make your position clear in the conclusion: you see rural-to-urban migration as more negative overall. Relevant reasons include access to jobs, healthcare and education, alongside pressure on roads, air quality and employment. However, the discussion is uneven: the benefits of moving are listed but not explained with a specific example, while the negative effects receive more attention. The conclusion also introduces food production and factories without developing these points in the main discussion, and the final sentence about benefits slightly weakens the force of your position. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of two or three key points in more depth and use a relevant example to support them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons people move, a paragraph on urban pressures, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the main stages, and the central contrast is easy to identify. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links between individual ideas are sometimes abrupt: the discussion moves from traffic to pollution and then job competition without explaining how each point connects to the overall argument. The conclusion also adds new points rather than drawing together the body paragraphs. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and make the conclusion synthesise the reasons already discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “infrastructure,” “health facilities,” “air pollution,” “competition for jobs,” and “inflation.” These terms allow you to discuss both the attractions of cities and the pressures caused by population growth. However, word choice and collocation are often imprecise or repetitive, as in “the public in rural areas,” “stress to the cities,” and “high quality education many people just move.” There are also spelling errors such as “wether,” “Furthurmore,” “contruction,” and “goof,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, use “rural residents,” “put pressure on cities,” and “access to high-quality education.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Cities are the developed areas of a country, where…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors make sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “I will discuss that wether it a good sign” is missing a verb and has an incorrect clause structure; “where there are infrastructure is developed” has faulty word order and agreement; and “Heavy traffic … is the significant problem … which degrade” contains article and subject–verb agreement problems. Several long sentences also join ideas without clear punctuation. Practise accurate clause construction, articles and agreement, and divide overloaded sentences into shorter units while retaining some complex structures.
