Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I am writing this letter in regards to your advertisement and I am willing to help you out with your household chores next summer.
Although I do not drive, I can support you with cleaning of your house, helping with the cooking and look after your child. I do have years of experience in teaching so I can spend time with your kids and give them a tution. Moreover, I like to keep place tidy and neat therefore, you will not have any complains regarding my cleaning work.
Since I am new to this city and area I would like to learn more about the people, culture, language and about the food choices.By helping you with your work I can polish my skills and can gain some new experiences.
Due to my course I am not available during weekdays but on weekends I am available from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Pragati Nanera

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you offer cleaning, cooking and childcare, explain that you want to learn about the local culture and gain experience, and state that you are unavailable on weekdays but free at weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The letter also maintains an appropriate, polite purpose and closing. Your offer is supported with relevant details, such as your teaching experience, although the availability could be more precise by giving a start date or explaining whether the weekend hours apply throughout the summer. The reason for wanting the work is understandable but could be developed further by linking your goals more directly to this particular role. Overall, the task is addressed clearly, with some scope to extend a few details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your interest, describe the help you can provide, explain your motivation, and then give your availability. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “Since” help connect related ideas. The closing is also appropriate. Some linking is slightly mechanical, however, and the second paragraph combines several duties and qualifications in a long sequence. The transition from your teaching experience to keeping the house tidy could be smoother, while the motivation paragraph would benefit from clearer links between learning about the area and gaining experience. More controlled sentence grouping and a few less formulaic transitions would make the organisation feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “household chores,” “teaching,” “culture,” and “available.” These choices make your offer and reasons easy to understand. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions: “in regards to” is less natural here than “regarding,” “cleaning of your house” could be expressed more idiomatically as “cleaning your house,” and “polish my skills” does not fit the intended meaning as well as “develop my skills.” Spelling errors such as “tution” and “complains” also affect accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a reason clause beginning “Since.” Most of the message remains clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. In “I can support you with cleaning of your house, helping with the cooking and look after your child,” the items in the list are not parallel; use “clean your house, help with the cooking, and look after your child.” The sentence beginning “Since I am new…” also needs a space after the full stop before “By helping.” In “I can polish my skills and can gain,” repeating “can” is unnecessary. More consistent parallel structures, sentence boundaries, and punctuation would improve control.
