Mrs Barrett, an English-speaking woman who lives in your town, has advertised for someone to help her in her home for a few hours a day next summer.

Write a letter to Mrs Barrett. In your letter

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Mrs Barrett,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mrs Barett,

I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement for a part-time helper. I would be happy to offer my assistance with your household chores.

I can help you in multiple ways. I can help you in cleaning the house and washing dishes. If you want I can go with you for grocery shopping. Apart from this, I will manage laundry work easily without any trouble. I am good in cooking because I recently completed short term cookery course. So, I can cook any kind of meal as per your wish.

I am interested in this job because I would like to earn some extra income in my free time. I addition to this, I enjoy helping other people, especially elderly individuals. This opporunity allows me to gain valuable experience and improve my communication skils.

I am available in the morning and afternoon during wekkdays. But, I always spend my weekends with my family and I cannot work on weekends.

I am looking forward to your feedback.

Yours sincerely,

Kirandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you offer cleaning, dishwashing, laundry, shopping and cooking; explain that you want extra income and enjoy helping others; and state that you are available on weekdays but not weekends. The letter is relevant throughout, and the range of proposed duties gives Mrs Barrett a clear sense of how you could assist. Your reasons are also appropriate, although “gain valuable experience and improve my communication skills” could be linked more specifically to this particular role. To strengthen the response further, clarify the exact hours or times you can work, since “in the morning and afternoon” is broad, and develop one or two duties with a little more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your application, describe possible duties, explain your motivation, and finish with your availability and a polite closing. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking phrases such as “Apart from this” and “In addition to this” help connect related points. The overall organisation is easy to follow. Some connections are slightly mechanical, however, and the repeated “I can help” makes the duties paragraph less varied. You could group household tasks together and use a more natural transition to cooking or shopping. Also, “But” at the start of the availability sentence creates a somewhat abrupt contrast; a smoother link would make the paragraph flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “household chores,” “laundry,” “cookery course,” and “extra income.” These choices make your proposed help and reasons clear. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, including “Barett,” “opporunity,” “skils,” and “wekkdays,” which reduce accuracy. A few expressions are also less natural: “good in cooking” and “manage laundry work easily” would be more idiomatic as “good at cooking” and “do the laundry.” “Elderly individuals” is suitably formal, though it may sound presumptive if Mrs Barrett’s age is unknown. Greater accuracy and more natural collocations would improve the overall control of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including conditional phrasing in “If you want, I can go with you for grocery shopping” and a reason clause in “because I would like to earn some extra income.” Most sentences communicate your meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain: “I addition to this” should be “In addition to this,” and “I am good in cooking” needs the pattern “good at cooking.” The sentence “I can help you in cleaning the house and washing dishes” would be more natural as “I can help you clean the house and wash the dishes.” There is also inconsistent spacing around punctuation. Continue practising accurate preposition patterns and varied sentence structures while checking each sentence before sending.
