Dear Mrs Barrett,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mrs Barret,
I hope you are having a great weekend,
I am writing this letter in regards to your posted advertisment as you are looking for someone to help you in your household chores. I think i am the suitable person to assist you as I work as cleaner in a hotel nearby your place which is very beneficial for both of us. Moreover, I can do special deep cleaning and sanitisation of your home excellently beacuse i will be able to borrow some of the best and unharmful cleaning agents from my work.
I am keen to do this work beacuse it will help to polish my cleaning skills and it would me better for me to learn how to do home cleaning.
Despite of working full time with my current employer, I will be able to help you later in the evenings or on weekends. Please do let me know whatsoever suits you best.
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Warm Regards,
Aditiya.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main purpose of the letter and give relevant information about how you could help, including household chores, deep cleaning and sanitisation. You also explain your motivation by saying the work would polish your cleaning skills, and you mention evening and weekend availability. However, the availability point is only partly covered: the task asks when you will and will not be available, but you do not state any times or days when you cannot work. Your reasons for wanting the job are also brief, and the claim that it would help you learn home cleaning is not fully explained given your current cleaning work. Add specific unavailable periods and develop your motivation with a clearer personal or practical reason.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you respond to the advertisement, describe your experience and possible help, explain your interest, and then discuss availability. Paragraph breaks make these stages easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “Despite of working full time” help connect ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking. To make the progression more polished, avoid placing a comma after the opening greeting sentence and use more precise transitions where ideas are related. The final availability paragraph would also be clearer if it separated the times you can work from the times you cannot, rather than leaving the latter unstated.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the situation, including “household chores,” “deep cleaning,” “sanitisation,” and “cleaning agents.” These choices communicate your experience and the help you can offer. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “advertisment,” “beacuse,” and “unharmful”; “posted advertisement” and “non-toxic” would be more natural. Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, including “in regards to” and “polish my cleaning skills.” The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but more accurate spelling and natural collocations would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “I think I am the suitable person to assist you as I work as cleaner in a hotel nearby your place.” The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In that sentence, use “a cleaner” and a more appropriate construction such as “near your home.” “Despite of working full time” should be “Despite working full time” or “Although I work full time.” There are also punctuation and capitalisation issues, including the comma after “weekend” and lowercase “i.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but more consistent control of articles, prepositions and sentence punctuation would strengthen the letter.
