Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mrs Barrett,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to formally inform you that I am available for your help in upcoming summer.
Recently, I saw an advertisement on Facebook and in which you mentioned that you are in need of a person for few hours a day in upcoming summer. I would like to give a brief work history of mine. Currently, I am working as a cleaner assistant and my duty include, cleaning carpet, dishes, kitchen area, make bed, laundry and moreover, fold and iron the clothes. Therefore, I am a suitable candidate for your house help in next summer.
This is my profession and I am happy to do cleaning job for you. Since more and more people believe this filed is money making machine, our firm is loosing costumers because newcomers gives low quote and attracts the customer.
Because of this reason, I am working only 4 days a week. So, I am eager to help you few hours on Monday and weekend.
I am looking forward to your positive response.
Thank you,
Kevin Peter

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly outlined your cleaning experience, explained your motivation, and specified your availability. However, the explanation regarding why you want the work is slightly tangential; focusing on the competitive nature of your current industry and the 'money making machine' aspect is less relevant than expressing a genuine interest in helping Mrs Barrett. To improve, ensure your reasons for wanting the job are more directly linked to the specific role or your desire to assist her. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be slightly more professional in its delivery.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Since', and 'Because of this reason' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved to better separate your experience from your availability. The flow between the second and third paragraphs is slightly disjointed due to the shift from discussing your professional background to the market conditions of your current firm. Improving the use of referencing and smoother transitions would help the text flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'formally inform', 'advertisement', and 'suitable candidate'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'cleaner assistant' (should be 'cleaning assistant'), 'filed' (should be 'field'), and 'loosing costumers' (should be 'losing customers'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common professional terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, including article usage ('in upcoming summer' should be 'in the upcoming summer'), subject-verb agreement ('my duty include' should be 'my duties include'), and verb forms ('newcomers gives' should be 'newcomers give'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and subject-verb agreement, as these are consistent issues throughout the letter.
