Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: suggesting how you can help, explaining your motivation, and stating your availability. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter, although the opening 'Hello Barrett' is too informal for a formal letter to a stranger. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat brief and could be further developed to provide a more professional impression. For instance, you could elaborate on the specific types of food you can prepare or provide more detail on your previous experience to make your application more persuasive. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the prompt. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition between sentences is often abrupt, and there is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is present, but the structure within the paragraphs could be improved by using more sophisticated connectors (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition to this') rather than relying on simple sentence structures. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from more varied cohesive links.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'household assistance', 'extensive experience', and 'convenient'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'adverts you posted' (should be 'advertisement') and 'international restuarant' (spelling error). You also rely on some basic phrasing, such as 'I really need a job'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to domestic work and professional communication. Spelling errors like 'restuarant' and 'loaction' also slightly detract from the overall quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences, missing articles (e.g., 'in home cleaning'), and incorrect preposition usage. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'since, i have extensive experience...'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy significantly.
